NFL Preseason Oakland Raiders vs Green Bay Packers, Free Pick, Odds

NFL preseason week 3 and we get a matchup between the Oakland Raiders and the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The game has a start time of 8:00 pm (Eastern) and will be televised on CBS. Current Vegas odds have the Packers listed as 7 point favorites, while the total is set at 43.5.

Analysis: The Oakland Raiders evened their preseason record at 1-1 last week when Matt McGloin's 19-yard touchdown pass to Brice Butler with six seconds left lifted Oakland over the Detroit Lions 27-26. McGloin finished the game hitting just 7 of 15 passes, but he did throw for 114 yards and a TD, with no picks. Matt Schaub went 8/13 for 87 yards and an INT. He should get more time in this game. David Carr went 9/16 for 109 yards and a TD. Brice Butler led the team with 74 yards receiving, while Darren McFadden and Kory Sheets both had 27 yards rushing. David Carr did suffer a concussion last week and will need to pass the NFL's concussion test before he can play.

The Green Bay Packers also evened their record at 1 game a piece with a solid 21-7 win over the St Louis Rams. The game marked the first action that QB Aaron Rodgers has seen in the preseason and he was very sharp, hitting 11 of 13 passes for 128 yards and a TD. Scott Tolzien also had a solid showing, hitting 10 of 15 pass for 107 yards in the game. Also getting his first action in the preseason was Eddie Lacy, who ran the ball 5 times for 25 yards. Tight end Andrew Quarless had four receptions for 58 yards, while, Randall Cobb caught three passes for 34 yards and a touchdown.

Pick: Going to look to the UNDER in this one. I know that the starters will look to get extended time in this one and that Aaron Rodgers looked really sharp last week, but we will also see more time from Lacy in this one as well and that means some more running plays from the Packers. Also they will be taking on a Raiders team that will not be all that bad on defense this year. The Raiders have allowed just 283.5 ypg in the preseason thus far and that was games vs an improved Minnesota offense and the Detroit offense. The defense is clearly the strength of this team and it will need to be, becuase the offense will be bad again. Matt Shaub has not really had a good Preseason and the Raiders may be missing David Carr for this one. I look for Oakland to work on their running game here, which is the type of team they are anyway. They will be taking on a Packers defense that has looked good this year so far, especially when their starters are in there,as they have allowed just 17 total points in the first half of their games so far. I know Unders are risky, but I see this one staying in the 30s.
