NFL Preseason Detroit Lions vs Oakland Raiders

Players to Watch in the Lions vs. Raiders Preseason Game

The Detroit Lions head west tonight as they take on the Oakland Raiders in the NFL Preseason. The game is scheduled for a 10:00 p.m. start time and the odds for the game have the Raiders favored to win this one at home.

Detroit picked up a come-from-behind win over the Cleveland Browns in their opening game last Saturday. Cleveland had looked pretty solid offensively in that one for most of the first half, but were only able to score 12 points. The Browns managed to kick a field goal in all four quarters, but gave up a touchdown late in the contest as the Lions picked up a 13-12 victory.

Oakland is coming off a 10-6 loss to the Minnesota Vikings in their opening preseason game. The Vikings scored all 10 of their points in the opening quarter in what appeared to be a pretty boring game. Oakland put a charge in the game late, scoring a fourth quarter touchdown as Matt McGloin found the end zone on a 10-yard run.

In tonight's game Oakland is playing their first home game of the preseason. We expect their fans to be ready to go in this one but the Lions are aiming for a perfect preseason. Matthew Stafford played just a single series in the team's opening game while Dan Orlovsky and Kellen Moore both played the rest of the game. Stafford probably won't play much more than he did against Cleveland, but both Orlovsky and Moore will have no problems throwing the ball all over the yard. Don't expect Calvin Johnson to play.

The Raiders are going to have a battle on their hands with Derek Carr and Matt Schaub — one is a veteran QB while the other is a rookie. But Carr has the arm, the pedigree and the size to be a legitimate quarterback in this league. As Carr continues to get more and more snaps during the preseason, he's going to continue to draw a lot of attention. But for now, Schaub probably gives them the best change to win.

In tonight's game look for a pretty entertaining game. There should be some points in this game, at least more than the 19 points these two teams combined for in their opening week games. Raiders are favored here, but we don't see it.
