The Mississippi State Bulldogs have played in four straight bowl games and are looking for more this year. The 2014 Mississippi State Bulldogs Schedule opens with some winnable games, but they have some tough road contests.
Mississippi State has really done well for themselves under coach Dan Mullen, who has won 36 games as the coach of the Bulldogs. They've played in four straight bowl games and picked up a 44-7 beatdown win over Rice in the Liberty Bowl last season. This year the Bulldogs are looking to take the next step to playing in a bigger bowl.
The Bulldogs open up with three straight winnable games against Southern Miss, UAB and South Alabama. They do have very tough road games against LSU, Kentucky, Alabama and Ole Miss, however. They'll host Texas A&M and Auburn as their two toughest home games. The Bulldogs bring back 18 starters from last season's squad, which should make them very competitive this season, even in the SEC.
Mississippi State hasn't won the SEC West title since 1998 and they probably won't this year, either. But we do expect them to be very competitive and play in another bowl game this season. QB Dak Prescott is a dual-threat guy that can get it done with both his arm and his feet. Both the tailback and receiver corps should be pretty solid again this season.
Up front, we like the Bulldogs on defense. In fact, defensively we think the Bulldogs will be much better than they were last season — they gave up 59 to LSU and 51 to Manziel and the Aggies. If the defense can be better the Bulldogs will be having a very nice season.
However, it's worth noting that Mullen is not very confident in the kicking game. They attempted just 20 field goals last season and combined to make just nine of those. Ugh.
