Major League Baseball Odds Toronto Blue Jays vs Boston Red Sox

Monday baseball and we will see the Toronto Blue Jays take on the Boston Red Sox in game 1 of their 3 game series from the Fenway Park in Boston. First pitch is scheduled for a 7:05 PM (Eastern) start time and the game will be televised on ESPN.

Current Odds

Toronto              +125
Boston                -145

Over/ Under: 8.5 O -115

Analysis: The Toronto Blue Jays come in having won 7 of their last 9 games and are currently in 2nd place in the AL East just 3 games behind the Baltimore Orioles. The Jays are just 26-27 on the road this year, but they are 7-1 in their last 8 meetings with Boston. The Jays have been solid on offense this year, ranking 5th in the league in scoring (4.55 rpg), 5th in hitting (.262) and 1st in homers (127). The pitching has been poor for the Jays, as they rank 25th in the league in ERA (4.13) and 26th in WHIP (1.36). Getting the ball for the Jays today will be the knuckleballer, RA Dickey, who is 8-10 with a 4.04 ERA on the year, overall, while on the road he has gone 2-7 with a 3.77 ERA.  Dickey is 2-2 with a 6.12 ERA in 4 starts vs the Red Sox the last 2 years.

The Red Sox come in reeling some, as they have won just 1 of their last 6 games, but that was on the road and now they are back home, where they have won 5 in a row. The Sox are now 9 games under .500 and in last place in the AL East. The Red Sox are a poor offesive team, ranking 21st in scoring (3.89 rpg), 20th in hitting (.248) and 23rd in homers (81). The pitching has been very average for this team, as they are 18th in ERA (3.82), 16th in WHIP (1.37) and 7th in quality starts (61). Getting the ball for the Red Sox tonight will be Clay Buchholz, who is 5-6 with a 5.56 ERA overall, while on the road he is 3-3 with a 4.94 ERA. Clay is 10-7 with a 2.86 ERA in 21 career appearances (20 starts) vs the Blue Jays, but is 1-2 with a 5.60 ERA vs them this year.

Pick: Gonna go with the Sox here. I feel that Buchholz is in much better for here, and while the Sox are off playing a heated rival, so are the Jays, but they may be just a bit flatter after end a long, long losing streak in New York by winning the last 2 games of the series. I expect a Boston Win here.
