Major League Baseball Odds San Francisco Giants vs Philadelphia Phillies Free Pick

Thursday baseball and we will see the San Francisco Giants take on the Philadelphia Phillies in game 4 of their 4 game series from Citizen's Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pa. First pitch is scheduled for a 1:05 PM (Eastern) start time and the game will be televised on MLB Network.

Current Odds

San Francisco      +106
Philadelphia          -115

Over/ Under: 7 Even

Analysis: The San Francisco Giants has taken the first 3 games of this series and now have also taken back the lead in the NL West, by 2 games over the Dodgers. The Giants are now 29-19 on the road for the year. The Giants have not been all that great on offense, as they come in ranked 16th in the league in scoring (4.00), 22nd in hitting (.246) and 12th in homers (91). The pitching, though, has been solid as they rank 6th in the league in ERA (3.35) and 3rd in WHIP (1.17). Getting the ball for the Giants today will be Tim Hudson, who is 8-6 with a 2.78 ERA overall, while on the road he has gone 3-3 with a 2.35 ERA. Tim is 11-9 with a 3.12 ERA in 29 career starts vs the Phils, including 4-3 with a 3.55 ERA in 10 career starts in this park.

The Philadelphia Phillies have had a rough year, as they come into this game at 15 games under .500 and in last place in the NL West. The Phils offense has not been good at all this year, as they come in ranked 28th in scoring (3.82 rpg), 28th in hitting (.232) and 20th in homers (81). The pitching has also struggled, as they are 21st in the league in ERA (4.00) and 20th in WHIP (1.32). Taking the hill for the Phils will be Cole Hamels, who is 4-5 with a solid 2.83 ERA on the year, while at home he is 1-2 with a 3.86 ERA. Cole is 5-3 with a 3.75 ERA in 12 career starts vs the Giants.

Pick: I will be going with the Under in the one. Tim Hudson is an excellent day pitcher and while his ERA is 3.61 in day games this year, but Tim does have a 3.12 ERA vs the Phils in his career, plus he will be taking on a weak Philly offense as well. Tim has a 2.35 ERA on the road this year, with those games averaging just 6.87 rpg. Cole Hamels comes in with a 1.88 ERA in his last 10 starts and he has an 0.97 WHIP in his last 3 starts. Cole has allowed 2 ERs or less in 4 of his last 5 starts vs the Giants, with the 5 starts averaging just 4.6 rpg. The Giant offense has been hot of late, but they won't get much off the hotter Cole in this one. 5 runs at most here.
