Major League Baseball Odds Tampa Bay Rays vs St Louis Cardinals

Wednesday night baseball and we will see the Tampa Bay Rays take on the St Louis Cardinals in game 2 of their 2 game series from Busch Stadium in St Louis. First pitch is scheduled for a 7:15 PM (Eastern) start time and the game will be televised locally.

Current Odds

Tampa Bay        +105
St Louis              -115

Over/ Under: 7 O -125

Analysis: The Tampa Bay Rays come in having won 6 games in row, but are still in last place in the AL East, a full 8 games behind the Baltimore Orioles. The Rays have been weak on offense this year, as they come in ranked 23rd in the league in scoring (3.93 rpg), 13th in hitting (.254) and 22nd in homers (79). The pitching has been been average, as they rank 13th in the league in ERA (3.76) and 12th in WHIP (1.26). Getting the ball for the Rays tonight will be Alex Cobb, who is 5-6 with a 4.08 ERA on the year overall, while on the road he has gone 5-2 with a 4.05 ERA. Alex has never faced the Cardinals.

The St Louis Cardinals lost last night's game and that now drops them 1.5 games behind the Milwaukee Brewers in the NL Central. St Louis is now at 29-22 at home this year. The Cardinals have been an awful offensive team this year, ranking 29th in scoring (3.74 rpg), 15th in hitting (.252) and 29th in homers (62). The pitching has been what has kept them around, as they are 8th in ERA (3.39) and 8th in WHIP (1.23). Getting the ball for the Cardinals will be Lance Lynn, who is 11-6 with a 3.13 ERA overall and 7-2 with a 2.84 ERA on the road. Lance has never started vs the Rays.

Pick: Going with the Under here. First off both pitchers should have an advantage of having never faced these teams. Alex Cobb has a 4.05 ERA on the road, but he has allowed 3 runs or less in 6 of his last 7 starts and besides the cards can't score right now, having averaged just 2.8 rpg in their last 5 games. Lance Lynn has been very good for the Cards this year, especially at home, where he has a 2.84 ERA, including a 1.62 ERA in his last 5 starts at Busch. Overall Lynn has allowed 2 runs of less in 8 of his last 10 starts and the Rays struggle to score on the road, where they average 3.67 rpg. Last night should have been a pitcher's duel, but it wasn't. Tonight will be though.
