Major League Baseball Odds Baltimore Orioles vs Oakland A's Free Pick

Saturday baseball and we will see the Baltimore Orioles take on the Oakland A's in game 2 of their 3 game series from O.Co Coliseum in Oakland, California. First pitch is scheduled for a 9:05 PM (Eastern) start time and the game will be televised on MLB Network.

Current Odds

Baltimore        +135
Oakland          -150

Over/ Under: 7.5 U -115

Analysis: The Baltimore Orioles let one slip away last night as they had a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the ninth, before a walkoff 3-run shot by Josh Donaldson did them in. The Orioles are still 52-43 on the year, 26-20 on the road and still have a 4 game lead over the Blue Jays in the AL East. The Orioles have been a very good offensive team this year, as they come in ranked 8th in scoring (4.31 rpg), 5th in hitting (.265), and 2nd in homers (116), but are also dead last in stolen bases (26). The pitching for the Orioles has been below average, coming in ranked 17th in ERA (3.86) and 21st in WHIP (1.32). Getting the ball for the Orioles tonight will be Wei-Yin Chen, who is 9-3 with a 4.15 ERA overall, while on the road he is 4-1 with a 4.58 ERA. Chen is 3-0 with a 1.00 ERA in 4 career starts vs the A’s.

The Oakland A's seem like a team of destiny this year after last night miracle comeback in the 9th inning to take game one of this series. The A's are now 60-26 overall and 31-15 at home, and still lead in the AL West by 1.5 games over a very hot LA Angels squad. The A's have been excellent on offense this year, ranking 2nd in the league in scoring (4.91 rpg), 17th in hitting (.251) and 6th in homers (100). The pitching has been just as good for the A's, as they are 2nd in ERA (3.09), 2nd in WHIP (1.16) and 5th in quality starts (61). Getting the ball for the A's tonight will be Jason Hammel, who will be making just his 2nd start A’s since being traded. In his first start he allowed 2 ERs in 5 inning at the Giants. Jason is 0-4 with a 6.68 ERA in 8 appearances (6 starts) vs the Orioles, but he hasn’t faced them since 2008.

Pick:  Going to go with the A's in this one. They just keep finding ways to win and with Jason Hammel coming off a loss in his first start with the A's, i look for him to have a better showing tonight vs his old team. Jason has the edge of never having faced the O's since 2008, so not many of their players would have seen him before. Wei-Yin Chen has good career numbers vs the A's but overall hasn't pitched that well, and despite his 4-1 record on the road he does have a 4.58 ERA. I also feel that losing like a team did last night that the wind may be out of their sails the next night. Oakland will find a way to get another win here.
