The A’s have been very good on offense this year, as they come in ranked 1st in the league in scoring (4.97 rpg), 14th in hitting (.253) and 9th in the league in homers (93). The Pitching for the A’s has been very good as well, as they are 2nd in the league in ERA (3.10) and 2nd in WHIP (1.16). Getting the ball for the A’s today will be Sonny Gray, who has had a nice year, going 9-3 with a 2.97 ERA overall, while on the road he is 3-1 with a 2.91 ERA. Sonny is 3-0 with a 1.44 ERA in 4 career starts vs the Mariners.
The Mariners have take the first two games of this series and have now closed to 7 games behind the Oakland A's in the AL West. The Mariners offense has sputtered for much of the year, ranking 18th in scoring (4.02 rpg), 25th in hitting (.243) and 22nd in homers (75). The pitching has been very good for the Mariners, as they come in ranked 3rd in ERA (3.18) and 1st in WHIP (1.15). Getting the ball for the Mariners today will be Chris Young, who is 8-5 with a 3.06 ERA on the year overall, while he has gone 5-2 with a 2.24 ERA at home. Chris is 3-1 with a 2.52 ERA in 7 appearances (6 starts) vs the A’s.
Pick: I will go with the A's to avoid the sweep here. Chris Young has pitched well at home, but Sonny Gray has pitched well on the road and he is 3-0 with a 1.44 in 4 career starts vs the Mariners. I just can not see them getting the sweep here. The A's will bounceback with another strong showing from Gray.
