Saturday Baseball Pittsburgh Pirates vs Cincinnati Reds Start Time, Odds, Free Pick

Saturday baseball and we will see the Pittsburgh Pirates take on the Cincinnati Reds in game 2 of their 3 game series from Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati, Ohio. First pitch is scheduled for a 7:15 PM (Eastern) start time and the game will be televised on FOX.

Current Odds

Pittsburgh         -105
Cincinnati          -105

Over/ Under: 7.5 U -115

Analysis:  The Pittsburgh Pirates are having a rough road trip, going just 1-4 on it so far. Pittsburgh is now just 3 games over .500, but still only 3.5 games out in the NL Central. The Pirates have been decent on offense this year, as they come in ranked 13th in scoring (4.11 rpg), 9th in hitting (.257) and 13th in the league in homers (82). The Pitching for the Pirates has been decent as well, as they are 12th in the league in ERA (3.73) and 12th in WHIP (1.27). Getting the ball for the Pirates tonight will be Charlie Morton, who is just 5-9 on the year, but with a nice 3.10 ERA overall, while on the road he is 2-6 with a 3.88 ERA. Morton is 5-7 with a 4.21 ERA in 15 career starts vs the Reds, including 3-2 with a 3.95 ERA in 7 career starts at this park.

Despite the injuries, the Reds have had a nice home stand so far, going 7-2 on it. The Reds are still in 3rd place in the NL Central, but just 1.5 games behind the fading Milwaukee Brewers. The Reds offense has sputtered for much of the year, ranking 21st in scoring (3.94 rpg), 19th in hitting (.248) and 17th in homers (77). The pitching has been solid for the Reds, as they come in ranked 9th in ERA (3.45) and 6th in WHIP (1.21). Getting the ball for Reds tonight will be Mike Leake, who comes in at 7-7 with a 3.42 ERA on the year overall, while at home he is 3-4 with a 3.50 ERA. Mike has nice numbers vs Pittsburgh, going 6-3 with a 3.40 ERA in 17 career starts vs them.

Pick:  I will look at the Over in this one. Despite the Injuries, the Reds have put up 4 or more runs in 7 straight games, while the Pirates have averaged a solid 4.4 rpg in their last 10 games. Both starters are in good form here but still wild things happen when these two teams hook up and that has me liking the Over here.
