Major League Baseball Odds Detroit Tigers vs Kansas City Royals

Friday night baseball and we will see the Detroit Tigers take on the Kansas City Royals in game 2 of their 4 game series from Kauffman Stadium in Missouri. First pitch is scheduled for an 8:10 PM (Eastern) start time and the game will be televised locally.

Current Odds

Detroit               -122
Kansas City       +112

Over/ Under: 7.5 O -125

Analysis:  Look out the Tigers may be waking up a bit. after sweep a brief 2 game series vs the Dodgers, the Tigers then start a 4 game series in Kansas City last and beat up on the Royals to the tune of 16-4. Detroit has now scored 14+ runs in 2 of their last 3 games na have a solid 5.5 game lead over the royals in the AL Central.  The Tigers have very good on offense this year, as they come in ranked 4th in scoring (4.74 rpg), 2nd in hitting (.278) and 7th in the league in homers (94). The Pitching for the Tigers has not been good at all, as they are 24th in the league in ERA (4.02) and 18th in WHIP (1.31). The Tigers will send Anibal Sanchez to the mound and he comes in with a 5-3 record and a 3.18 ERA overall, while on the road he has gone 2-0 with a 2.39 ERA. Anibal is 4-2 with a 1.04 ERA in 6 career starts vs the Royals, including going 1-2 with a 1.35 ERA in 3 starts at Kauffman Field.

The Kansas City had a nice run for a while but now come in having lost 4 of their last 6 games, to fall to 5.5 games behind the Detroit Tigers, who seem to be on the verge of big run. The Royals offense has been average this year, ranking 13th in scoring (4.13 rpg), 5th in hitting (.264) and 30th in homers (53). The pitching has been decent for the Royals, as they come in ranked 11th in ERA (3.67) and 16th in WHIP (1.29). Getting the ball for Kansas City tonight will be Danny Duffy, who has pitched in tough lick this year, as he is 5-8, but with a 2.86 ERA overall, while at home he has gone 1-3 with a 3.77 ERA. Duffy is 1-5, but with a decent 3.68 ERA in 8 career starts vs the Tigers.

Pick:  I have to look at the Over in this game. Last night 20 runs were scored, with the Tigers putting up 16 of them. In was the 2nd game in their last 3 that the Tigers have scored at least 14 runs in a game, while overall they have averaged 6.7 rpg in their last 10 games. Anibal Sanchez hasn't allowed more than 1 ER in his 6 career starts vs the Royals, but he does come in struggling right now, with a 6.50 ERA in his last 3 starts and while he has a 2.39 ERA on the road, his road starts have averaged 9.4 rpg. Danny Duffy has been solid this year and he has a 3.68 career ERA vs the Tigers, but Detroit's offense is just clicking too much right now to think he can slow them down, plus we note that behind Duffy is a bullpen that has a 4.86 ERA at home, while we know how bad the Tiger bullpen can be. This one could hit 10+ runs again.
