The Jacksonville Jaguars come in off another poor year, in which they went just 4-12 and the prospects of turning things around this year don’t look all that good. Vegas has the Jaguars win total set at 4.5 (O -185… U +150). Let’s take a quick look at the Jacksonville Jaguars, along with their 2014 Schedule.
Last year the Jags were last in the league in scoring, at 15.4 ppg, while also ranking 31st in total yards (293.8 ypg), 22nd in passing (215.1 ypg) and 31st in rushing (78.8 ypg). Truly a pathetic offense and im not sure it will be a whole lot better this year. While Blake Bortles is a very good QB, he is not worthy of the third overall pick in the draft and I just can’t see him helping the offense too much in his first year. Chad Henne isn’t the answer either, but the Jags did get some at least one solid weapon in drafting Marquise Lee (USC). The Jags were one of the worst rushing teams in the league, as they ran for less than 80 ypg and nothing was really done to upgrade this. Toby Gerhart was brought in to be the feature back, but he only has had 86 carries the last 2 years behind Adrian Petersen in Minnesota. The OL was a sieve last year and wasn’t upgraded at all in the off season. This offense will again struggle to put points on the board.
Defensively, the Jags ranked 28th in points allowed (28.1 ppg), 27th in yards allowed (379.4 ypg), 25th vs the pass (247.6 ypg) and 29th vs the run (131.8 ypg). Pretty much just as bad as their offense. The Jags spent their first 4 picks on offense and their 5th pick (CB Aaron Colvin) may not play until 2015, so not much was done to upgrade the defense. The Defense does have some talent, including Dwayne Gate and Andre Branch, but still this is a very you defense with just 3 players over the age of 30. Not sure if they will be as bad as last year, but this defense will still struggle.
The Win total for the Jags is just 4.5 and with good reason. Outside of getting Marquise Lee, the offense hasn’t really been upgraded, while the defense that struggled last year, will still go through some growing pains thanks to the youth. This team is trying to build for the future, but really had some head scratching moves on draft day, including taking Bortles with the 3rd overall pick. Just not allot to get excited about this Jags team this year, which has me thinking they will fall just short of the posted win total. 4-12 again for the Jags.
