Miami Dolphins 2015 Super Bowl Odds

The Miami Dolphins have made it to the playoffs just once since 2001 and it looks as if they will miss out on the post season party once again. Vegas odds currently have the Miami Dolphins at +550 to win the AFC East and +6500 to win the 2015 Super Bowl. Let’s take a quick look at the Miami Dolphins, along with their 2014 Schedule.

Last year the Dolphins ranked 26th in the league in scoring, at 19.8 ppg, while also ranking 27th in total yards (312.9 ypg), 20th in passing (222.9 ypg) and 26th in rushing (90.0 ypg). A big reason for all the offensive struggles was an offensive line that was a mess all year. Part of the problem was the Incognito/ Martin feud and the other part was just inconsistent play. The Dolphins looked to bolster their OL in the draft and used 2 of their first 3 picks to talk OL JuWan James and Billy Turner. That should really help the anemic ground attack and also help Ryan Tannehill stay off his back after being sacked a league high 58 times a year ago. Tannehill should have another solid year and has two big weapons in Mike Wallace and Brian Hartline to throw to. Hartline has 150 catches for 2099 yards the last 2 years and should have another solid year. The running game adds Knowshon Moreno to go with Lamar Miller. With improved OL play this could be a very good offense this year.

Defensively, the Dolphins were halfway decent last year, ranking 8th in points allowed (20.9 ppg), 21st in yards allowed (359.4 ypg), 16th vs the pass (234.5 ypg) and 24th vs the run (124.9 ypg).  Miami played a bend-but-don’t-break defense and did finish in the top 12 in both INTs (18) and sacks (42). Walt Aikens (CB, Liberty) was taken in the 4th round and should step right in and help out this secondary, while Jordan Tripp (OLB, Montana) will provide much needed help to a suspect LB Corps. This defense was upgraded through the draft and while they may not allow less points than last year, they should allow less yards.

Despite the upgraded offensive line and a few steals in the draft on the defensive side of the ball, this is still a very average team at best and think that an 8-8 record is the best that this team will be able to accomplish this year.
