Major League Baseball Odds San Francisco Giants vs St Louis Cardinals Free Pick

Saturday baseball and we will see the San Francisco Giants take on the St Louis Cardinals in game 3 of their 4 game series from Busch Stadium in St Louis. First pitch is scheduled for a 2:15 PM (Eastern) start time and the game will be televised on locally.

Current Odds

San Francisco       +147
St Louis                 -162

Over/ Under: 7.5 U -120

Analysis: The San Francisco Giants come in with the best record in baseball at 36-19 and are currently 7.5 games ahead of both the LA Dodgers and the Colorado Rockies in the NL West. San Fran is also 17-10 on the road this year. The Giants come in ranked 8th in the league in scoring (4.34 rpg), 19th in hitting (.246) and 4th in homers (63). The pitching for the Giants has been very good, as they come in ranked 3rd in ERA (3.08) and 2nd in WHIP (1.17). Getting the Ball for the Giants today will be righty Yusmeiro Petit, who comes in at 2-3 with a 5.08 ERA overall, while being really roughed up in his last 3 starts, going 0-1 with a 10.05 ERA in that span. Yusmeiro has made 3 career starts vs the Cards and he is 1-2 with a 4.50 ERA in those start, but none of them have been since 2009.

The St Louis Cardinals come in having lost 4 of their last 5 games, which now has their record at 29.26 on the year. The Cards had closed the gap on the Brewers to 1.5 games, but have now fallen back to 4 games out of first in the AL Central. The St Louis Cardinals have struggled to score this year as they rank 22nd in runs scored at 3.91 rpg. That is despite the fact that they are 8th in the league in hitting, with a .258 batting average. Pitching has not been an issue for this team, as they come in ranked 7th in ERA (3.40), 3rd in WHIP (1.18) and 5th in Ks (455). Michael Wacha gets the ball for the Cardinals and he is just 3-3 on the year, but with a solid 2.67 ERA. Wacha is also 3-0 with a 2.79 at home and has never faced the Giants in his career.

Pick:  Going with the Over in this one. We all know the Cards struggle to hit vs Lefties, but Petit is not a lefty and the Cards have scored 4.80 rp/9 off of righties at home this year. Now they will take on a struggling Petit, who has a 10.05 ERA in his last 3 starts, with all 3 of those starts putting up at least 12 runs. Michael Wacha has pitched well this year, but it's hard to look past the fact that the Giants have scored 5.1 rpg in their last 10 games and 4.50 rpg on the road for the year. Both offenses should have a good game here as we get at least 10 runs scored in this one.
