MLB Free Picks Miami Marlins vs San Diego Padres

Thursday night baseball and we will see the Miami Marlins take on the San Diego Padres in game 1 of their 4 game series from Petco Park in San Diego, California. First pitch is scheduled for a 10:10 PM (Eastern) start time and the game will be televised locally.

Current Odds

Miami         +135
San Diego   -150

Over/ Under: 7 U -120

Analysis: The Miami Marlins may be the surprise of the early season as they come into this game at 19-15 overall and in a tie for first in the National League East. A big reason for the resurgence of this team is the fact that they are 17-5 at home, but this game is on the road and they are just 2-10 away from home. Last year, Miami had the worst offense in the league, but so far this year they are 8th in scoring (4.62 rpg) and 3rd in hitting (2.67). Leading the hit parade on the team is Casey McGehee, who has 41 of them, while Giancalo Stanton leads them in HRs with 10 and RBIs with 38. The pitching has been solid as well, as they rank 8th in ERA (3.30) and 7th in WHIP (1.20). Jacob Turner gets the ball for Miami tonight and he has been rocked in his 2 starts, allowing 11 ER's in 10 innings of work. He is 1-0 with a 1.00 ERA in 1 career starts vs the Padres.

San Diego is off to another slow start as they come in at 15-20 overall, including just 9-10 at home for the year. The Padres took the Miami place as far the offense goes, as they come in ranked dead last in scoring (2.60) and dead last in bating average (.215), plus they are 29th in HRs (19). Pitiful offensive numbers for sure. Evereth Cabrera leads the team in hits (35), while Yasmani Grandal leads them in HRs (4) and Jed Gyorko leads them in RBIs (12). The Pitching has been solid for this team as they come in 7th in ERA (3.19) and 9th in WHIP (1.25). Ian Kennedy gets the ball for the Padres tonight and he comes in having gone just 2-4 with a 3.43 ERA on the year. He is 3-1 with a 3.52 ERA in 5 career starts vs Miami.

Pick: Is there anywhere to look here but the Under. We have a pack that has yielded just 5.89 rpg so far this year, to go along with a Miami team that has scored just 2.67 rpg on the road and a San Diego squad that has put up just 2.79 rpg at home for the year. Jacob Turner has struggled in  starts this year, but maybe his best start ever was last year vs the Pads, in a game that he allowed just 1 ER in 9 innings. Ian Kennedy comes in with a 3.43 ERA, bur Miami can't hit on the road and he does have a career 3.06 ERA in 16 starts in this park. Kennedy does have a 5.09 ERA at home this year, but his 4 home starts have averaged just 6 rpg. This has the feel of a 3-2 type game at best.
