Analysis: The Oakland A's have gotten off to another solid start as they come in at 18-12 overall and 12-6 on the road. The A's have also been solid in this series of late, taking 11 of the last 15 meetings between the teams. The took game 1 of this series, but Boston bounced back with a 6-3 win yesterday afternoon. The A's come in ranked 5th in the league in scoring (5.07 rpg) and 12th in hitting (.255). Josh Donaldson leads the team in Homers (7), hits (35) and RBIs (23). The pitching for the A's has been very good as they rank 4th in ERA (3.05) and 4th in WHIP (1.15). Sonny Gray gets the ball for the A's in this one and he is off to a nice start, with a 4-1 record and a 1.76 ERA so far. Sonny has never faced the Red Sox.
For Boston, they have not started the defense of the World Series Title all that good, as they come in at 14-16 on the year, including 7-10 at home. The Red Sox did take yesterday's game by a 6-3 count, but it wasn't easy in the end as they went to the 9th with a 6-0 lead bu the A's scored 3 runs and had the tying run at the plate when Uehara came in and got the save. It was his 7th of the year so far. The Red Sox come in just 13th in scoring (4.23 rpg) and 21st in hitting (.244). Ortiz leads the team in HRs (6) while tying for the team lead in RBIs (17) with Mike Napoli. Pitching has not been great for this team as they rank 15th in ERA (3.75) and 20th in WHIP (1.34). John Lackey gets the ball for the Sox and he comes in at 4-2 with a 3.82 ERA on the year. Lackey has pitched very well vs the A's in his career, going 19-6 with a 2.90 ERA in 34 starts vs them.
Pick: I will look to the Over in this one. Sonny Gray has pitched very well in the early going of the year, but I feel that Boston will be able to hit him in this one. The Sox have scored 4.61 rpg at home and 5.19 runs per 9 innings off of righties in this park. The A's have been hitting the ball very well this year and have scored 5.07 rpg on the road, including 5.32 runs per 9 off of righties away from home. Lackey has had a good career vs the A's, posting a 19-6 record and a 2.90 ERA in 34 starts vs the A's, but he has been hit around at times this year, giving up 6 ERs to Each Baltimore and the Yanks, which also have very good offenses like the A's. I can see 11 or 12 runs in this one.
