On the plus side, Commanding Curve did start in a pair of two-turn races, both good, over the Churchill main track last fall, and only one other Derby horse – Tapiture – has that kind of local route experience.
Commanding Curves will be run by jockey Shaun Bridgmohan. who has over 2,000 victories in more than 160 stakes and over 60 graded stakes in his career. He has a strong 2011 Kentucky Derby mount in Santiva who he rode victoriously in the Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes (GII) during Churchill Downs’ 2010 Fall Meet. He received the 1998 Eclipse Award for Apprentice Jockey and his first Grade I winner was in the 2000 Carter Handicap aboard Brutally Frank.
Commanding Curve is from the final crop by multiple Grade 2 route winner and millionaire Master Command, who died in 2010. Master Command, who won the William Donald Schaefer Handicap and the Meadowlands Breeders' Cup Stakes, reached the peak of his powers as a five-year-old, when romping in the New Orleans, Mineshaft and National Jockey Club Handicaps. The Lion Hearted mare Mother scored both her career victories at six furlongs.
Not allot of stamina in the pedigree of Commanding Curves, meaning it will be very difficult for him to stay in this race for too long.
