New York Rangers vs Philadelphia Flyers Game 6 First Round NHL Playoffs Start Time, Odds, Free Pick

What the Philadelphia Flyers Should Wish for This Christmas

The New York Rangers and Philadelphia Flyers take to the ice tonight in Game 6 of their First Round NHL Playoffs series. The game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on the NBC Sports Network. Currently the odds for the game have the Flyers as a small favorite.

This should be an exciting Game 6 to watch between these two rivals. Both New York and Philadelphia have battled to this point in the post season and if the Flyers can't win tonight, their season will come to an end. New York will look to get a victory on enemy ice tonight, which would certainly boost their confidence moving forward to the second round if they can win.

Philadelphia has to feel pretty good that they're at least playing at home in a must-win situation. The Flyers won 24 games at home this season, but it's also worth noting that the Rangers were one of the best teams in the league on the road this year, winning 25 contests.

Flyers captain Claude Giroux guaranteed his team would win Game 4 and they came out and got a victory. But they fell in Game 5 ad Madison Square Garden. Giroux isn't standing in front of the mics and guaranteeing anything tonight, knowing they need to get a victory but not putting any more pressure on his team than needs to be.

The Rangers have been able to block 90 shots so far this series, which is just remarkable. Because of that, the Flyers are only averaging just under 25 shots per game. They haven't gotten a lot of pressure or traffic in front of Henrik Lundqvist, either. If they can send skaters his way and mess up the front of the net, they're going to have a solid chance tonight.

New York is 13-2 in a series they have led 3-2, but the Rangers have lost 11 straight games in which they had a series lead. Philadelphia is 7-10 in Game 6 when trailing 3-2.

The Flyers will need Steve Mason to play well tonight. Since coming back he has done a nice job in between the pipes. He made 37 saves in Game 4, which helped keep the Flyers alive in this post season. But having to out-duel Lundqvist tonight is going to be tough. The Flyers are going to have to put pressure on the Rangers from the get-go and somehow get more shots on net.

This game is going to be a grueling matchup, but we like the Flyers to win at home. Game 7 is on the horizon.

Free Pick: Philadelphia 3, New York 1
