Philadelphia picked up a huge win on Easter Sunday inside Madison Square Garden, claiming a Game 2 victory over the New York Rangers and stealing home ice advantage. Now the Flyers welcome in the Rangers for a Game 3 matchup that is going to be an interesting one to watch.
New York was one of the better road teams in the league this season, sporting a record of 25-14-2 for the season, which set a franchise record for victories on the road. Philadelphia was pretty solid in home games, winners of 24 contests. The Rangers aren't afraid to play on the road and with what has happened in this post season, we wouldn't be surprised if they are able to get a victory over Philadelphia tonight.
Ray Emery is going to be making his third straight start for the Flyers as Steve Mason is still banged up. Mason hasn't played since he was injured in a collision in the next-to-last game of the regular season on April 12. Mason was 33-18-7 with a 2.50 goals-against average and .917 save percentage this season. He helped the Flyers overcome a 1-7 start and coaching change to make the playoffs. Emery made 31 saves in the Flyers' win over the Rangers on Sunday and he has a lot of experience. He helped guide the Ottawa Senators to the Stanley Cup Finals in 2007 and was the backup for the Chicago Blackhawks last night, who won the Stanley Cup championship.
The veteran picked up his first playoff victory in three season, dating back to a 2011 win when he was playing with the Anaheim Ducks. It was also the Flyers' first road win against the Rangers since 2011 as well. New York was 0-2 inside the Wells Fargo Center this season and have lost four of their last five games there. Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist gave up three goals on 24 shots in Game 2 of the series.
Brad Richards has a goal and two assists so far for the Rangers. Neither team has a single player that has scored multiple goals so far this post season. Scott Hartnell has two assists for the Flyers in the two games and hasn't scored yet. Each player will be the offensive catalyst the rest of the series for their respective squad. We like the Flyers to get the victory at home tonight.
