Analysis: The defending WS champs are off to a rough 6-9 start and they are just 4-5 on the road for the year as well. The Sox won last night game in extra innings, but are still just 2-4 on this current road trip. The Sox are normally one of the best offensive teams in the league, but that is not the case this year as they come in ranked 25th in scoring (3.53 rpg) and just 23rd in hitting (.236), plus they are just 19th in homers (12). Very un-Boston like numbers. The Pitching for Boston has been solid as they rank 9th in ERA (3.40), 16th in WHIP (1.27) and 8th in Ks (129). Jon Lester will toe the rubber tonight for the Red Sox and he is off to just a 1-2 start, but he has pitched very well with a 2.57 ERA. Jon has struggled with the White Sox of late as he is 2-3 with a 5.87 ERA in his last 5 starts vs them.
For the White Sox, they come in at 8-7 overall and 6-3 at home. Chicago is 2-8 in their last 10 vs a lefty and 3-10 in their last 13 vs the AL East. Chicago comes in ranked 1st in the league in runs scored (5.73 rpg), 5th in hitting (.263) and 3rd in homers (20). SS Alexei Ramirez leads the team in hitting at .390, plus he has 4 homers, which is tied for the team lead with Jose Abreu. Ramirez and Abreu are also tied for the team lead in RBIs at 14. Pitching, though, has been an issue for them as they are 28th in ERA (5.02) and 29th in WHIP (1.51). Chris Sale gets the ball for the White Sox tonight and he comes in with a 3-0 mark and a 2.66 ERA. Chris has never faced the Red Sox.
Pick: Going with the Under here. The White Sox have played some of the higher scoring games this year, as their hitting has been great, while their pitching has been very poor, but this game should not be one of those high scoring games. The Sox are really struggling to score, as they have averaged just 3 rpg in their last 6 games and it won't get any better here vs Chris Sale, who has a 2.66 ERA on the year and a career 2.92 ERA on the field. Let's also note that current Red Sox hitters have faced him just 25 times and they have a mere .120 BA vs him in those ABs. Facing Sale is tough if you seen him before, let alone being unfamiliar with him. The Sox have been good on offense this year and Lester has struggled vs them in his career, but the White Sox have struggled vs lefties this year, hitting just .248 vs them and I expect those struggles to continue vs Lester tonight, especially in what should be a game in the 40's.
