Saturday Baseball Chicago Cubs vs St Louis Cardinals Start Time, Odds, Pick

Saturday afternoon baseball and we will see the Chicago Cubs take on the St Louis Cardinals in game 2 of their 3 game series from Busch Stadium in St Louis, Missouri. First pitch is scheduled for a 2:15 PM (Eastern) start time and the game will be televised locally.

Current Odds

Chicago       +192
St Louis        -210

Over/ Under: 7 U -120

Analysis: The Cubs enter the game at 4-6 on the year overall and 2-2 on the road. Last night the Cubs took game 1 of the series with 3 runs in the top of the 11th to win the game 6-3. The Cubs are a below average offensive team as they have scored 3.9 rpg (18th) and have hit just .246 (17th). Pitching has been decent so far as they are 10th in the league in ERA at 3.39. Carlos Villanueva gets the ball for the Cubs in this one and he comes in at 1-2 with a 4.26 ERA on the year. He has 2 appearances out of the bullpen, while his lone start of the year was vs Philly and he allowed just 1 ER in 5 innings of work in that game. Carlos has faced the Cardinals many times this year and he is 5-4 with a 3.44 ERa in 31 appearance (10 starts) vs them. He is also 3-1 with a 3.97 in 16 appearances (5 starts) in this park.

The St Louis Cardinals have begun defense of the NL Pennant a bit slower than they would have liked as they come in at just 5-5 on the year so far. A big reason for the slow start has been their offense, and that is not something that is said too often about the Cardinals. St Louis comes in averaging just 3.2 rpg, which is 25th in the league, while they have hit at just a .212 clip, which is 27th in the league. The Pitching has been average this year as they are 16th in ERA (3.93) and 18th in WHIP (1.32). Adam Wainright has not been average and will be on the mound for the Cardinals in this one and he comes in with a 1-1 mark and a 1.29 ERA so far. Adam has also faced the Cubs 31 times, with 22 of those being starts and he is 8-6 with 4.24 ERA in all appearances vs the Cubs.

Pick:  Going with the Cardinals on the RL. They took a tough loss last night, after battling back late and they have their ace on the mound for this one. I look for the Cards to bounce back with a very strong showing today.
