Sunday Baseball St Louis cardinals vs Pittsburgh Pirates Start Time, Odds, Free Pick

Sunday afternoon baseball and we will see the St Louis Cardinals travel to PNC Park to take on thePittsburgh Pirates in a battle of NL Central foes. First pitch is scheduled for a 1:355 PM (Eastern) start time and the game will be televised locally.

Current Odds

St Louis        -161
Pittsburgh    +146

Over/ Under: 7 O -120

Analysis: The Cards are off to a 3-2 start after last night's 6-1 win over the Pirates. That game followed a 12-2 loss at the hands of these Pirates in the series opener. In the early going the Cardinals are not hitting the ball all that well as they have averaged just 3.2 rpg and have hit just .200 in their first 5 games. Second baseman Matt Carpenter has reached base three times in each of the first two games after hitting 1-for-19 in last season's NLDS. Getting the ball for the Cardinals in this one is Adam Wainright, who went 19-9 with a 2.94 ERA last year. Adam picked up where he left off last year as he threw 7 shutout innings in a 1-0 win over Cincinnati in his first start of the year. In last year's NLDS Wainwright was 2-0 with a 1.13 ERA against the Pirates, including a complete game performance in the Cardinals' decisive 6-1 victory in Game 5.

For Pittsburgh, they also come into this game with a 3-2 mark, with all 5 games being played at home so far. Pittsburgh won the series opener 12-2 behind 2 homers from Pedro Alvarez, who led the Pirates with 36 of them last year. The Pirates couldn't sustain the offense they had in game 1, in game 2 as they lost 6-1 last night. For the year the Pirates now average 4.00 rpg, while hitting just .230.Getting the ball tonight for the Buccos is newly acquired Edinson Volquez, who will be making his first start for Pittsburgh. Volquez went just 9-12 last year for the Dodgers and Padres and he is 3-5 with a 5.56 ERA in 10 career starts vs the Cardinals.

Pick:  Gonna play St Louis on the RL (-1.5, +100) in this one. Volquez has horrible career numbers vs the Cardinals, while Wainright is pitching very well, and is coming off a big year. he has picked up where he left off last year. The Pirates very little offense and the Cardinals should take advantage once again. 5-2 St Louis.
