Major League Baseball Opening Day Seattle Mariners vs Los Angeles Angels Start Time, Odds, Free Pick

Monday afternoon baseball and we will see the Seattle Mariners travel to Anaheim, California to take on the Los Angeles Angels in a clash of American League West foes. First pitch is scheduled for a 10:05 PM (Eastern) start time and the game will be televised on ESPN 2.

Current Odds

Seattle        +115
LA Angels    -125

Over/ Under: 6.5 O -120

Analysis: The Mariners finished 2013 ranked 22nd in runs scored (624), 28th in hitting (.237) and 2nd in homeruns (188) which was a huge surprise. Now this team should be better overall on offense with the monster signing of Robinson Cano. For years Cano has hit for both power and average and has driven in a ton of runs and should help this offense score more this year. Also helping will be the addition of Corey Hart, who hit 30 homers for the Brewers last year. Justin Smoak has good HR power as well, while the addition of Logan Morrison at DH should offset the loss of Kendrys Morales.  Overall this is a solid offense that will be capable of scoring a good amount of runs this year. Felix Hernandez gets the ball for the Mariners after going 12-10 with a 3.04 ERA last year. He is 8-13 with a 3.95 ERA in 35 career starts vs the Angels.

Last year the Angels finished 7th in the league in runs scored (733), 12th in homers (164) and 5th in batting average (.264). The Angels do lose Mark Trumbo and leadoff man Peter Bourjos from last year’s squad, but they did bring in David Freese and Raul Ibanez, which are both solid power hitters and both can drive in a ton of runs as well. Now that makes this lineup very scary as those two will combine with Pujols, Josh Hamilton and Mike Trout. I know that Hamilton and Pujols had down years last year, but I just don’t expect them to have back-to-back bad years in a row. Both are more than capable of monster years and if both can at least come close to their career numbers, then this offense may be unstoppable. Still overall this is a going to be a very good offense that will hit for both power and average and will score a lot of runs. Jared Weaver gets the ball for the Halos, after going 11-8 with a 3.27 ERA last year. He is 13-8 with a 3.23 ERA in 27 career starts vs the Mariners.

Pick: Lets go with the Over in this one. The Mariners have a new look offense led by Robinson Cano and they will be looking to show it off tonight. The Angels want to get off to a good offensive start so I look for them to put up some runs here and King Feliz has struggle with the Angels squad. I can see both teams getting at least 3 runs in this one.
