NBA Basketball Picks Miami Heat vs San Antonio Spurs

NBA basketball on Thursday night and we will see the Miami Heat travel to the Lone Star State to take on the San Antonio Spurs. The game has a start time of 8:00 pm (Eastern) and will be televised on TNT. Vegas odds have the Spurs listed as 3 point favorites, while the total sits at 209.

Analysis: The Heat are 1.5 games behind the Pacers for the top spot in the East. They had won 8 in a row until a 106-103 loss at Houston on Tuesday. This is the 2nd meeting of the year between the two teams, with Miami taking the first meeting by a 113-101 count. Miami comes in ranked 7th in the league in scoring , putting up 104.7 ppg, while ranking first in the league in shooting as they have hit 51.1% of their shots this year. A few games ago Lebron James broke his nose, but he only missed one game and has scored 33.5 ppg in his 4 games that he has been playing with a protective mask. Lebron leads the team in scoring (27.4 ppg) and rebounding (6.9 rpg). Dwayne Wade (19.6 ppg) and Chris Bosh (16.6 ppg) round out the DD scorers on the team. Defensively this is a very solid yeam, allowing just 98.4 ppg on the year, which is 7th in the league. Miami has won five straight regular-season meetings but is just 3-22 in regular-season contests played in San Antonio.

The Spurs trail Oklahoma City by 1 1/2 games for the best record in the West, and they come in having won four straight and seven of eight after a 122-101 win at Cleveland on Tuesday. The Spurs come in ranked 9th in the league in scoring (104.3 ppg), 2nd in FG% (48.8%), 1st in 3-point shooting (39.1%) and 4th in FT shooting (78.9 ppg). this is a very balanced offense that has 6 players who average in double digits and 9 players overall that average at least 8.2 ppg. The Offense is led by Tony Parker and Tim Duncan who average 17.6 ppg and 15.4 ppg respectively. Duncan also leads the team in rebounding with 10 boards per game. In the first meeting the Spurs were without 3 starts, but should be at full strength for this one. Defensively they allow just 98 ppg (6th) on 44.8% shooting (9th). San Antonio is 13-0 when holding opponents under 90 points and 11-0 when keeping foes below 40 percent shooting.

Pick: I will go with the Under in this game. This is a big nationally televised game for both team and both teams have played great defense this year. Should be a tight game with around 200 points being scored at best.
