The No. 2 Wichita State Shockers are hitting the road tonight in college basketball action when they take on the Bradley Braves. The game is scheduled for a 9 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on ESPN2. Currently the odds for the game have Wichita State favored by 12 points on the road in this contest.
Wichita State is the last unbeaten team in major college basketball. They've all but locked up a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament and even if they were to drop one of their remaining games they're going to be on that top line most likely. Tonight they're taking on a Bradley team tonight that is pretty solid when they are playing at home.
Bradley is just 1-10 in road games this year, which is awful. In home games they've gone 11-5 and could cause Wichita State some problems. The Shockers have navigated their way through their first 29 games and have just Bradley and Missouri State left on the schedule. The Missouri Valley Conference does have some solid teams, but Bradley is just 7-9 and in the bottom tier of the league. But that makes this game even more interesting. Bradley could have their biggest win in this game, which is on ESPN2, and many people tuning in.
Tekele Cotton had 21 points in Wichita State's win over Drake on Saturday. With that win, the Shockers became the first team to reach 29-0 in the regular season since Illinois did it in 2004-05. They're also 16-0 in conference action for the first time in school history. In college hoops history, 11 teams have started 30-0 or better, but none of them earned all 30-plus wins during the regular season. The Shockers have beaten Bradley eight straight times in this series and crushed the Braves 72-50 in the first game this season.
These two are the best defensive clubs in the Missouri Valley. Wichita State allows only 61 points per game to opponents while Bradley gives up 65.5 points to their opponents. Bradley is scoring just 58.8 points in their last four games, but did break a three-game losing streak in a win Saturday. Walt Lemon Jr., the MVC's third-leading scorer with 17.7 points per game, is going to have to play well tonight.
Wichita State has won their last three games in Bradley. They last lost there in February 2010. We think Wichita is going to be able to win this game, but it's not going to be easy as Bradley is a pretty strong offensive club. This might have upset alert for quite a while, but we think the Shockers get the win
