The 18th ranked Kentucky Wildcats welcome in the LSU Tigers in SEC college basketball action today. The game is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on ESPN. Currently the odds for the game have Kentucky favored by double digits in this one.
Everyone in the SEC is at the bottom and looking up at the Florida Gators, who still haven't lost in conference action. Kentucky sits in second place for the SEC and are trying to recover from a loss they suffered to Florida just last week. Today they welcome in a scrappy LSU team that can score points, rebound and defend pretty well.
The Tigers put 92 on Mississippi State in their last game after losing two straight on the road. LSU has a pretty small shot of making the NCAA Tournament, but in order to accomplish that they have to win a road game or two. Asking them to get a victory here tonight might be a bit too much to ask. Kentucky is a very good team at home, going 14-1 at Rupp Arena to date this season.
Remember, Kentucky also has some in-season revenge here going in this game. LSU topped the Tigers 87-82 back in January as Johnny Bryant III connected for 29 points. Better believe that Julius Randle and the Kentucky boys down low remember that game and will bring their top effort tonight. LSU is an awful 2-6 in road games this season.
Defensively Kentucky is a better team than LSU can put on the floor, but will they be able to play that way tonight? If Randle and Willie Cauley-Stein can control the boards and alter some shots, LSU is probably going to have a tough time. Kentucky is one of the best rebounding teams in the country, pulling down better than 41 per game. They shoot the ball well and obviously score. On average they allow only 66.5 points per game. LSU raced past that in their win over the Wildcats, but it won't be easy to do that again.
If the freshmen play well, Kentucky is going to have an easy win. We think that will happen.
