NCAA Basketball Free Picks Boston College Eagles vs Syracuse Orange

NCAA basketball on Wednesday night and we will see the Boston College Eagles travel to the Carrier Dome to take on the Syracuse Orange. The game has a start time of 7:00 pm (Eastern) and will be televised on ESPN 2. Vegas odds have the Orange listed as 14.5 point favorites, while the total sits at 132.

Analysis:  The Boston College Eagles have not had a very good year so far as they come in at 6-19 overall and 2-10 within the ACC. Their only two wins this year in the ACC have both been against Virginia Tech. Boston College is mediocre at best on offense as they come in averaging just 69.8 ppg on 44.3% shooting for the year. Just 2 players average in double figures for the Eagles, led by Olivier Hanlan, who scores 18.2 ppg, while Ryan Anderson is second at 14.8 ppg and he leads the team in rebounding at 7.1 rpg. Not much depth on this team as the top 4 scorers on this team average above 7.6 ppg. Defense has been a problem for BC this year as they have allowed 75.5 ppg on 47.4% shooting.

Will Syracuse have anything left in the tank for this one after a couple of last second victories over Pittsburgh and NC State. Still the Cuse are the top ranked team in the nation and come in with a 25-0 mark overall and a 12-0 record within the ACC. The Cuse are led by their defense that has allowed just 58.2 ppg on the year, which is 7th in the nation, while also allowing teams to shoot just 40.4% shooting, which is 51st in the nation. On offense the Cuse are very average, but when you have the defense that they do you can afford to have an average offense. The Cuse come in averaging just 70 ppg on 45.4% shooting and are led by CJ fair, who has averaged 16.5 ppg, while Jerami Grant leads the team in rebounding at 7.2 rpg.

Pick: I have to like the under in this game. Syracuse can't score right now as they they have averaged just 58 ppg in their last 4 games. Now we look at Syracuse's ACC games and we see that just 1 of those games have put up more than 129 points, with the only game doing so being the Duke OT game. Take out that game and Syracuse's other 11 ACC games have averaged just 112.9 ppg. that a 19 point difference from tonight's total. A big reason is their stifling defense that allows just 58.2 ppg on the year, including just 52.1 ppg in their ACC games vs teams not named Duke. BC is an average offensive team that averages just 70 ppg overall and 67.4 ppg on the road in the ACC, but vs this defense it will be hard for them to come close to either of those numbers. BC allows 76.6 ppg on the road, but Syracuse is really happy scoring in the mid 60's at best. Syracuse as scored more than 69 points just twice in their ACC games and they scored just 69 points the last time these teams met. 69-55 sounds about right for this one.
