NCAA Basketball Picks California Golden Bears vs Washington State Cougars

College Basketball on Wednesday night and we will see the California Golden Bears travel to Pullman, Washington to take on the Washington State Cougars. The game has a start time of 11:00 pm (Eastern) and will be televised on ESPN U. Vegas odds have the Golden Bears listed as 5.5 point favorites, while the total sits at 129.5.

Analysis: The Cal bears have been off for a week and they needed the break to regroup as they come in having lost 4 of their last 5 games. Still Cal comes in at 14-8 overall and 6-4 within the Pac-12. The offense has left the bears of late as they have scored just 68 ppg in their last 5 games, compared to averaging 74.8 ppg overall for the year. On offense the Bears are led by Justin Cobbs, who puts up 16 ppg, while also leading the team in assists (6.0 apg). Tyrone Wallace scores 12 ppg and is a nice complement in the backcourt, while David Kravish (11.7 ppg, 7.6 rpg) and Richard Solomon (11.3 ppg, 10.5 rpg) have been solid in the frontcourt. Solomon leads the Pac-12 in rebounding. Cal has been solid on defense, allowing just 69 ppg on 41% shooting.

Washington State has not played well this year as they are 9-14 overall and 2-9 within the Pac-12. They have been decent at home, winning 7 of 12 games overall, but they are just 2-3 at home in the Pac-12. Washington State is one of the weaker offensive teams in the Pac-12, scoring just 61.8 ppg on 41% shooting, while it has been even worse in the last 5 games as they have averaged just 59.4 ppg over that stretch. With Davonte Lacy out, Que Johnson is the leading scorer for this team and the only active player for Washington State that averages in double figures.  On defense the Cougars have been solid as they have allowed just 66 ppg, which is 68th in the nation.

Pick: This is a clear under play for me. The Cougars have really struggled to score of late and without Lacy in there it has been even harder for this team to score as they have averaged just 55.2 ppg (Regulation) in the 10 games since Lacy has gone out. That is pitiful. The Cal Bears have allowed 74.4 ppg on the road, but the Cougars just don't have the kind of offense to take advantage. The Bears come in struggling on offense of late as they have scored just 68 ppg in their last 5 games and the Cougars have played excellent defense at home, where they have allowed just 61.6 ppg. The Cougars are an all out slow don team and that is their only chance to win games, as they just don't have the offense to go up and down the court with teams. Washington State's home games have averaged just 126.3 ppg this year, thanks to poor scoring and very good defense and I feel they can draw Cal into that slow paced type of game here. Even if Cal should put up 70 in this game, I don't see the Cougars being able to hit 60 points at all. they just don't have that many points in them. This one may not reach 120 points.
