2014 Sochi Olympics Opening Ceremonies Start Time

The 2014 Winter Olympics are right around the corner and will take place in Sochi, Russia. The Opening Ceremonies take place at Sochi’s Fisht Olympic Stadium on Feb. 7 at 11 a.m. ET. NBC will broadcast its opening ceremony coverage, hosted by Matt Lauer and Meredith Vieira, at 7:30 p.m. ET. A lot of the info garnered from this article was taken from a few olympic sites on line. Hell I had to look up info on Russia. I don't know much about the country. LOL

The Opening Ceremony will not be shown live and it has been kept a secret for the most part, but Russia has been known t go all out, so it should be a great show. Most Americans would be hard-pressed to locate Sochi, Russia, on a map, but it will be to find on their screens this month, with NBC covering every minute of competition, either televised on NBC, NBCSN, CNBC, MSNBC and USA Network. You can also get coverage online at nbcolympics.com or via the NBC Sports Live Extra App. All-in-all you will get 1539 total hours of coverage, which is more than the 2006 (Turbin) and the 2010 (Vancouver) combined.

Sochi is known as a popular Russian resort. It is a summer resort and a favorite vacation spot of Russian president Vladamir Putkin. The city of about 350,000 on the Black Sea is known as the Russian Riviera. Sochi is one of the very few places in Russia with a subtropical climate, with warm to hot summers and mild winters. In case Mother Nature doesn't cooperate in the mountains, Mother Russia has stockpiled tons of snow.

85 countries with around 6000 athletes are expected to compete in the Sochi Olympics. There will be 12 new events in these games, including women's ski jumping, a team competition in figure skating and luge, a biathlon mixed relay, and dynamic X Games sports, including slopestyle versions of snowboarding and skiing; halfpipe skiing; and snowboard parallel slalom. Four years ago in the Vancouver games, The United States took home 39 Medals in all, which was more than any other country. Let's hope that they can have a similar showing this year.
