The Capital One Bowl features one of best postseason match-ups as Wisconsin battles South Carolina at the Florida Citrus Bowl in Orlando. The Badgers and Gamecocks are scheduled to kickoff at 1:00pm ET on January 1st; their meeting will be broadcast live on ABC. The latest 2014 Capital One Bowl Point Spread from offshore bookmaker 5Dimes has Wisconsin listed as a -2 against the spread and -128 money line favorite ($128 wins $100). Wednesday's game total is set at 51 points.
Wisconsin's season ended in truly stunning fashion as it fell 24-31 to Penn State at Camp Randall Stadium. The Badgers, who were lined as a 24.5 point home favorite against the Nittany Lions, finished -3 in turnover margin as sophomore quarterback Joel Stave threw three interceptions.
The loss ended a six game winning streak for Wisconsin and knocked it out of the mix for a possible BCS bowl berth.
Despite that shocking result, the Badgers accomplishments this season cannot be diminished. Wisconsin dominated almost all comers, including bowl teams in Iowa, BYU, and Minnesota, and its other two losses came on the road against No. 14 Arizona State (30-32) and No. 7 Ohio State (24-31).
South Carolina had a great season as well, despite coming up short in its bid to win the SEC East. The Gamecocks notched 10 regular season wins for a third straight year and they registered victories over postseason qualifiers Vanderbilt, UCF, Missouri, Mississippi State, and Clemson.
South Carolina's only two losses came away from home as they fell 30-41 to a healthy Georgia squad on September 7th and 21-23 in Knoxville on October 19th.
South Carolina has been rough on the Big Ten in bowl play, posting a 5-1 record against the conference in six postseason clashes. The Gamecocks two most recent Big Ten victims were Nebraska and Michigan State. South Carolina rolled the Huskers 30-13 in the 2012 Capital One Bowl and it dropped the Spartans 33-28 in last season's Outback Bowl.
Notable Trends: The Gamecocks are 9-1 straight up and 8-2 against the spread in their last 10 games with a total between 47.5 and 51 points.
