Analysis: It's been a forgettable season for the 2-13 Houston Texans, who haven't won a game since beating the Tennessee Titans all the way back in Week 2. Houston has already fired coach Gary Kubiak, has the worst record in the NFL and enters the season finale with a franchise-worst 13-game losing streak. Despite big time struggles from the QB position, WR Andre Johnson has had an outstanding year, as he ranks second in the NFL with 103 receptions and fifth with 1,358 receiving yards and he has tied an NFL record with his 5th consecutive 100 catch year. Overall this offense has struggled though with just 15.8 ppg scored since their last win vs Tennessee. Defensively they have been solid in terms of yards allowed, ranking 7th in that department, giving up 318 ypg, but they also rank 26th in points allowed at 27.5 ppg.
Tennessee (6-9) had dropped three straight and eight of 10 before winning 20-16 at Jacksonville last Sunday. Tennessee will miss the playoffs for the fifth straight season and coach Mike Munchak could be fired early next week. Running back Chris Johnson has experienced a decent year but is still just 50 yards away from posting his sixth consecutive 1,000-yard rushing season. Tennessee has lost five consecutive home games, the franchise’s worst streak since 1996. Ryan Fitzpatrick has led the team for much of the year after Locker went down and he has been mediocre at best, throwing for 2288 yards with 14 TDs and 11 INTs on the year. The Titan defense has been average this year, ranking 15th overall and 10th vs the pass, but they have been run on this year, especially at home, where they have allowed 609 yards and 11 TDs on the ground during their 5 game home losing streak.
Pick: Neither team has anything to play for here and in week 17 that can lead to plenty of points and I fully expect that. Both teams are not playing much defense these days and Houston has no running game, meaning they will have to throw a ton here. The Tennessee Offense comes in having put up 25.3 ppg in their last 8 games and should easily put up points on this deflated Houston defense. I see 48+ in this one.
