Temple Owls vs Memphis Tigers College Football Picks

College football on Saturday and we will see the Temple Owls travel to Memphis, Tennessee to take on the Memphis Tigers. The game has a start time of 12:00 pm (Eastern) and be will televised on ESPNews. Current odds have Memphis listed as 8.5 point favorites, while the total sits at 49.

Analysis: The Owls will look to snap their 4 game slid and grab their first AAC victory in the process when they visit Memphis on Saturday in their regular-season finale. Last week the Owls had a 21 point lead over Win Uconn at home, but ended up losing the game 28-21. Temple has now blown a fourth-quarter lead in its last three games in losses to Rutgers, Central Florida and UConn. P.J. Walker has had a nice freshman year for the Owls, completing 60.6% of his passes for 1756 yards, with 16 Tds and 7 INTs. Walker's favorite target down the field is clearly WR Ryan Anderson, who has caught 37 passes, for 695 yards and six Tds., while the ground attack is led by Kenneth Harper and Zaire Williams, who have combined for 1109 yards and 12 Tds. Temple has definitely struggled defensively this season, giving up 30.6 ppg and ranking last in the AAC in total defense (496.8 ypg).

Meanwhile, Memphis fell 24-17 Louisville last week, to fall to 3-7 on the season and 1-5 in conference play. They will close out their 2013 campaign next weekend at Connecticut. Memphis has certainly struggled on the offensive side of the football this year, as the team ranks second to last in the AAC in total yards (303.2 ypg) and eighth in scoring (20.3 ppg). Paxton Lynch runs the offense under center and has thrown for 1,725 yards, with 7 Tds and 9 INTs, while his favorite target is Joe Craig, who has team-high 313 yards on 33 receptions. Senior Brandon Hayes is the top rusher for Memphis, with 789 yards and 5 Tds on the year.. The defense has not been an issue for this team, as they are ranked third in the AAC in total defense (337.6 ypg) and fourth in scoring defense (20.2 ppg).

Pick: I love the Under in this game and really got a bonus with it coming out so high. The Temple offense is not all that explosive, as they have scored just 23.5 ppg on 386.7 ypg, overall, while scoring just 23.8 ypg on the road. An that is not vs many good defenses like the one they will face in this one. The Memphis struggles this year have not been due to their defense as they come in ranked 15th in the nation in total defense, 15th vs the run and 23rd in points allowed, giving up just 20.9 ppg on the year. At home they have allowed just 22.2 ppg and their home games have averaged just 44.4 ppg this year. The Temple defense has been very poor this year, but Memphis does not have the kind of offense to take advantage. Memphis is a grind it out, conservative type of offense that ranks 114th in total offense and 108th in scoring offense, putting up just 20.3. This game should be all about field position and defense and could very well be played in the 30's.
