College football on Saturday afternoon and we will see the Wake Forest Demon Deacons travel Nashville, Tennessee to take on the Vanderbilt Commodores. The game has a start time of 12:21 pm (Eastern) and be will televised on the SEC Network. Current odds have Vanderbilt listed as 14.5 point favorites, while the total sits at 42.
Analysis: Wake Forest enters its final contest of the year mired in a four-game losing streak. Last week they blew a 14 point lead at home to duke to lose the game 28-21. Wake Forest's offense has been among the least efficient units in the Football Bowl Subdivision this season, ranking 114th in scoring (18.1 ppg) and 117th in total yardage (292.9 ypg). The offense has really missed WR Campanaro, as they have passed for just 187 yards in the two games without him. QB Tanner Price has had a decent year, throwing for 2078 yards and 13 Tds, while also scoring 4 more Tds on the ground. He has now accounted for 64 touchdowns in his career (52 passing, 11 rushing, one receiving), which is just one short of Riley Skinner's school record of 65. On defense this year the Deacons have been very solid, allowing just 362.8 ypg (33rd) and 24.2 ppg (45th).
Vanderbilt will try for consecutive eight-win regular seasons for the first time since 1927-28. The Commodores are bowl eligible and enter the regular-season finale riding a three-game winning streak. Vanderbilt does not boast an explosive offense by any means, but they do top the SEC in red-zone success, having scored on 41- of-47 such opportunities (87%), including 33 TDs (70%). Austyn Carta-Samuels has started the past two games after missing two starts with a left knee injury, but mobile Patton Robinette will continue to get snaps. Whoever is at QB has one of the best WR's to throw to in Jordan Matthews, who is the SEC career leader in receptions (246) and receiving yards (3,491). On defense, the Commodores have allowed just 360.2 ypg overall and 208.8 ypg passing, which is 28th in the nation. The Commodores have forced 19 takeaways in their last five games and are second in the SEC with a plus-8 turnover margin. Vanderbilt is 10-1 in non-conference games under third-year coach James Franklin.
Pick: Going with the Under In this one. Neither has has explosive offenses and their defenses have been playing pretty well. Should be a pretty boring game with about 34 points being scored.
