Monday Night Football San Francisco 49ers vs Washington Redskins

Monday night football and we will see the San Francisco 49ers travel esat to take on the Washington Redskins. The game has a start time of 8:40 pm (Eastern) and be will televised on ESPN. Vegas odds have San Francisco listed as 4.5 point favorites, while the total sits at 47.

Analysis: The 49ers (6-4) were considered a favorite to return to the Super Bowl but are 2 1/2 games behind NFC West-leading Seattle and will likely need a strong finish to gain a wild-card spot. San Francisco isn't in panic mode yet, as its consecutive losses have come by a combined four points, unlike its clunkers in Weeks 2 and 3. The lack of offensive production is cause for concern, though, with the 49ers averaging 173.5 total yards over the past two games. Colin  Kaepernick is ranked 31st in completion percentage at 56.2 with only 11 touchdown passes and all of those have gone to Vernon Davis or Anquan Boldin. The 49ers have been unable to stretch the field, with 24 pass plays of 20 yards or more for the third-worst total in the league. They will have be getting Michael Crabtree back for this one so that could help. The defense is still one of the best units in the league and has forced two or more turnovers in seven of 10 games.

Washington (3-7) comes in at last place in the mediocre NFC East. Robert Griffin has completed 59.7 percent of his passes with 14 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He has a passer rating of 83.6 and is third in the league in QB rushing with 345 yards. Griffin's sophomore slump has been somewhat overstated considering Washington leads the league in rushing (155.2 ypg) and ranks sixth in total offense (412.1). The running game is in good hands with Alfred Morris, who is 82 yards shy of a second consecutive 1,000-yard season. TE Jordan Reed, who leads NFL rookies with 45 catches, is listed as questionable after leaving last week's game with a concussion. On defense, the Redskins rank 28th in total defense (389.9) and 30th in scoring (31.1) and they have allowed 400 or more yards in six of 10 games including three of the last four.

Pick: Going with the OVER in this one. Both of these teams come in desperate for a win and I expect them to pull out all the stops to get it. Not the time for these teams to be conservative. The Washington is 6th in the league in total offense and they should be able to get their fair share of points vs a Niners defense that has struggled at times vs the better offenses in the league this year. On offense, San Fran Has struggled the last 2 games, but this is still a goon Niners offense that will be better with Crabtree back in the fold. San Fran has averaged just 22.3 ppg on the road, but 32 ppg in their last 4 away from home and they will be taking on a porous Washington defense that is near the bottom of the league in total defense (389.9 ypg), passing defense (274.9 ypg) and scoring defense (31.1 ppg). I expect both teams to go all out on offense in this one as we get a game that is played in the 50's.
