SEC Football Odds Florida Gators vs South Carolina Gamecocks

SEC football on Saturday as the Florida Gators take on the South Carolina Gamecocks in Columbia, South Carolina. The game has a start time of 7:00 pm (Eastern) and be will televised on ESPN 2. Current odds have South Carolina listed as 14 point favorites, while the total sits at 42.

Analysis: After a 4-1 start to the season, Florida has fallen flat with four consecutive losses, including losing to the Vanderbilt Commodores last week, which was their first loss to them in 22 years. The Gators' struggles this season can be directly traced to their poor offensive play. The Gators come in ranked 13th in the SEC in scoring (20.6 ppg) and dead last in yardage (335.7 ypg). QB Tyler Murphy Has completed 60.5% of his passes for 1,216 yards with 9 TDs (three rushing) and 5 INTs. Mack Brown leads the team with 432 yards on the ground and 4 Td,s, but he's doing so on just 3.7 yards per carry. The silver lining for the Gators this season has been the strong play of their defense, which ranks 16th in the nation in scoring yield (19.0 ppg) and fifth in total defense (278.8 ypg). A loss in this game would give Florida its first five-game losing streak since 1979.

The Gamecocks have won back-to-back league games over Missouri and Mississippi State to reestablish themselves as East Division contenders The Gamecocks are off a bye week would has help QB Connor Shaw to get back to full strength. Shaw is completing nearly 63 percent of his passes for 1,655 yards with 18 TDs against just 1 INT, and he has also racked up 375 rushing yards with three more scores. Shaw doesn't have one go-to guy at receiver, but Damiere Byrd leads the way with 485 yards, while Bruce Ellington has scored 5 Tds. In the backfield, Mike Davis is a true workhorse turning166 carries into an SEC-best 1,058 yards and 10 Tds. The Gamecocks are not living up to their lofty preseason expectations on defense, but still they have allowed a respectable 22.1 ppg on the year. points per game. Jadeveon Clowney he has not responded well to teams paying him more attention, as he has just 2 sacks in 8 games. South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier is 3-5 all-time against his alma mater, including 2-2 at home.

Pick: I like the Under in this game. The Florida offense is a total mess, especially of late as they are averaging just 15 ppg in their last 4 games and they have totaled just 15.8 ppg on the road this year. Now they do face a SC defense that is down a bit, but that is also still 25thoverall, while allowing just 22.8 ppg. The Gamecock offense is better than average in the SEC, but they will have a tough time moving the ball on this Florida defense that is 5th overall, 5th vs the pass, while allowing just 19 ppg. This has the feel of an old-fashioned SEC defensive battle.
