The Buffalo Bulls have yet to lose a league game, but their first-place standing in the MAC's East Division will be put in jeopardy when they visit the Glass Bowl for a bout with the Toledo Rockets tonight. The game has a start time of 7:30 pm (Eastern) and be will televised on ESPN U. Vegas odds have Toledo listed as 3.5 point favorites, while the total sits at 54.
Analysis: Since starting the season with road losses to Ohio State (40-20) and Baylor (70-13), the Bulls have reeled off seven straight victories, including last weeks 30-3 win over Ohio to move their record to 5-0 in the MAC. Joe Licata improved to 10-3 as a starter, in the win over Ohio, as he threw for 169 yards with two touchdown passes. He has been in a nice groove of late with 1,339 yards, 13 TDs and 3 INTs over his past seven games. Brandon Oliver had 249 yards rushing last week and is already the owner of the program career record with 3,637 rushing yards, while leading the MAC this season with 140.4 ypg on the ground. Buffalo has held its opposition to only 12.3 ppg in their last 7 games and they were relentless against Ohio, limiting the Bobcats to a season-low 233 yards total offense.
Toledo is sitting in third place in the West Division behind Northern Illinois and Ball State, who have both yet to lose in MAC play. Coach Matt Campbell's team owns a 6-3 overall record with the losses coming courtesy of Florida (24-6), Missouri (38-23) and Ball State (31-24). Toledo's offense will test this tough Bulls' defense as they have averaged 43.8 ppg during their four-game winning streak. They had little trouble with EMU their last time out as they compiled 729 yards of total offense despite the absence of star halfback David Fluellen. Fluellen, who is second in the MAC with 133.4 rushing yards per game, is questionable for tonight's matchup. Terrance Owens completed 18-of-24 pass attempts for a season-high 375 yards and three touchdowns and now has thrown 3 TDs in each of his last 2 games. On defense, the Rockets are allowing 394.4 total yards and 26.2 points per game on the season.
Pick: Going with the Rockets at home. This is a Toledo team that has taken care of business on their home field, going 4-0, while outscoring their foes by 19.7 ppg in those games. Even when they have taken the Road this year they have played pretty well, hanging tough vs Florida and Missouri, while beating Bowling Green. Buffalo is on a 7 game win streak and they are 2-0 on the road in the MCA, but Kent State and Western Michigan don't come close to the kind of team that Toledo is. Toledo is always a tough team in the Glass bowl and on National TV they will come up with a big effort and give the Bulls their First conferece loss of the year. Toledo by at least a TD here.
