College Football Odds SMU Mustangs vs Cincinnati Bearcats

College football on Saturday afternoon and we will see the SMU Mustangs travel to Cincinnati, Ohio to take on the Cincinnati Bearcats. The game will televised on ESPN 3 and has a start time of 12:00 pm (Eastern). Vegas odds have Cincinnati listed as 8 point favorites, while the total sits at 66.5.

Analysis: SMU was expected to be a sleeper in the AAC this year, and they still could be as they are 2-1 within the conference, despite their 3-4 record overall. SMU is off a bye week, but prior to their bye they did win 2 in a row, including a high scoring 59-49 win over Temple. The Mustangs come in as one of the better offensive teams in the nation as they rank 19th in total offense, averaging 489 ypg and they are 5th in passing, averaging 380.7 ypg through the year and all that adds up to 32.7 ppg, which is 44th. On defense, though, this team is bad as they allow 448.9 ypg, including 290.8 ypg through the air, while giving up 42 ppg, which is 120th in the nation.

The Bearcats come in at 6-2 on the year and are 3-1 in the AAC. Cincinnati has been very tough at home this year, going 4-0 and have outgained their opponents by 234 ypg and have outscored them by 33.8 ppg in those games. That is domination. Cincinnati is one of the better offensive teams in the nation, especially in passing where Brandon Kay has led them to 24th in the nation in passing, putting up 282.1 ypg. That has clearly been a big part of their 34 ppg they have put up, which is 38th in the nation. Defensively, the Bearcats have been awesome as they rank in the top 8 in the nation in total yards (4th), passing yards (7th) and vs the run (8th), while allowing just 18 ppg, which is 11th in the nation. This is a complete team from top to bottom.

Pick: I am liking SMU to keep his one close or possibly pull the upset. Cincinnati has not really played anyone yet and that is a big reason for their 6-2 record. SMU is starting to play much better and they have an excellent shot at the outright upset here.
