The Florida State Seminoles have climbed in the rankings and are still flying high from a big win last week. They welcome in the NC State Wolfpack in ACC football action on Saturday. The game is scheduled for a 3:30 p.m. start time and it will be televised live on ABC or ESPN2 depending on your region. Currently the odds for the game have Florida State favored by more than four touchdowns.
Florida State has risen in the rankings and many people believe they're the best overall team in the country. Some of the computer rankings have the Noles ranked ahead of Alabama and that potential matchup can happen if neither one of those teams slip up.
The Seminoles have already had their "play bad and still win" game against Boston College, so we expect a focused FSU in this game. It's sandwiched between their beatdown of Clemson and Miami on deck, but we think Florida State hammers the Wolfpack at home. The Noles are third best in the country, averaging 53 points per game. But in home games Florida State has outscored opponents 179-13 in three games. That's dominant, no matter who you are playing.
NC State probably won't be able to compete on that level. Florida State's defense is nearly as good as the offensive unit, allowing only 12 points per game to opponents. They allowed just two touchdowns last week to Clemson, who came into that came averaging more than 40 points per game.
Remember, the Noles also have revenge from NC State last season. Florida State was 5-0 last year heading into this contest and lost 17-16 to the Wolfpack. Florida State went on to win 12 games and picked up a win in the Orange Bowl. But this year they have higher expectations for themselves.
Bobby Bowden will be in town for the contest, which should have the Doak Walker crowd rocking. The NC State defense is going to be on the field quite a bit in this one and we don't expect that equation to work well for them. Look for the Seminoles to get rowdy in this game and slow it down in the second half. But by then the game will already be over.
