The No. 1 Alabama Crimson Tide are a massive favorite over the Georgia State Panthers in college football action on Saturday. The game is scheduled for a 12:21 p.m. start time and it will be televised live on the SEC Network. Alabama is favored by eight touchdowns in this one.
The Crimson Tide just suspended starting safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix and will have to replace him. He's an NFL-type player, which Alabama is full of. But it's still a starter they have to replace. But that won't have any barring on this game as the Crimson Tide are looking to steamroll their way to another national championship.
Playing Georgia State at home shouldn't deter them from getting to that goal. The Panthers are 0-4 this season and are averaging just 17 points per game. Not good. Alabama will probably take it easy on the Panthers and oddsmaker had no choice but to open this game at Crimson Tide laying 56 points.
Sophomore QB Ronnie Bell for Georgia State has struggled this season, but did throw for 391 against Samford in the opener. Since then? He's combined for just 383 yards through the air in three straight games. Ugh.
Offensively the Panthers really aren't that good, which probably could have gone without saying. They've got just one rushing touchdown this season (a 65-yard run by Travis Evans) and they've rolled up just 388 yards on the ground — all year.
If Nick Saban didn't have a heart we'd probably take the Tide and the points despite the massive number. But all Georgia State needs is a field goal in this one for a probable cover. Alabama won't run it up and there's no reason for them to do so. Alabama has Kentucky on deck next week, so it's not like they have a huge game. Expect them to go through the motions in this game, which will just be a glorified practice.
