College Football on saturday and we will see LSU Tigers take on the Georgia Bulldogs in Athens, Georgia. The game will be televised on CBS and has a start time of 3:30 pm (Eastern). Current Odds have Georgia listed as 3 point favorites, while the total sits at 61.5.
Analysis: The LSU Tigers come in at 4-0 on the year overall and 1-0 in the SEC. LSU, which has won 29 straight games in September dating to 2006, is off to a 4-0 start for the seventh straight year. The 1-0 SEC mark happened last week when they knocked off Auburn 35-21. The Tigers have won 34 straight games when scoring 30 or more points and they are 62-4 under coach Les Miles when reaching the 30-point mark. Zach Mettenberger has had a very nice year so far, with 1026 yards passing and Tds and he seems to really be flourishing under the tutelage of Cam Cameron. The Ground game is also very strong with Jeremy Hill (117 ypg on the ground) leading the way. This LSU offense is no joke this year as they check in at 16th (43.2 ppg) in scoring, while their defense has been tough as always, ranking 24th in total defense and 38th in points allowed (19.5). LSU owns a 16-12-1 lead in the all-time series with Georgia, which includes victories in each of the last two meetings, the most recent of which being a 42-10 rout in the 2011 SEC Championship Game.
The Georgia Bulldogs lost their opener vs Clemson in a 38-35 thriller, but have since gone 2-0, beating the likes of South Carolina and North Texas last week. The Bulldogs struggled for most of the game with the Mean green last week, before pulling away for the 45-21 win. Aaron Murray set a new record for the longest offensive play in Georgia history by hooking up with Reggie Davis for a 98-yard TD pass early in the second quarter. Murray finished 22-of-30 for 408 yards and three TDs, climbing to No. 3 all-time in the SEC for total offense (11,352 yards). Overall the Bulldogs accumulated 641 yards of total offense vs the Mean Green, which is the fourth-best showing in school history. Georgia Enters the game 6th in total yards (574 ypg), 9th in passing (360.7 ppg) and 27th in scoring (40.3 ppg). The Defense for the Bulldogs still needs some work as they are 80th vs the pass (245.3 ypg) and 86th in scoring defense (29.7 ppg). The Georgia defense is led by Wilson and his 31 stops, although Amarlo Herrera is hot on his heels with 30. Coming into the year most thought the defense would struggled and they have so far.
Pick: I like the Tigers in this one. I just don't see the Bulldogs weak pass defense being able to slow down Mettenberger and company. The LSU offense has really taken off under Cam Cameron's direction and they will only continue to get better, especially since the can both run and pass the ball this year. They are not one dimensional anymore. We all know that Georgia can score points, but the Tigers defense is the best that they have seen yet and LSU will find a way to come up with enough stops to get the win here. That what it comes down to, is which defense will make the more crucial stop and the edge there clearly goes to LSU. Look for the tigers to get the win between the hedges in this one.
