MAC Football Toledo Rockets vs Ball State Cardinals, Odds

A big matchup in the MAC takes place today as we will see the Toledo Rockets take on the Ball State Cardinals in Muncie, Indiana. The game will be televised on ESPN3 and has a start time is 3:00 pm (Eastern).  Current Odds have Ball State listed as 1.5 point favorites, while the total sits at 67.5.

Analysis: The Toledo Rockets started the year with two losses to SEC foes, but they have bounced back with two wins in a row, including last weeks 38-17 win over MAC foe Central Michigan. RB David Fluellen racked up a season-high 197 rushing yards and two touchdowns, while QB Terrance Owens completed 13-of-17 passes for 139 yards and a touchdown. The Rockets were also very good on third down in the game converting on 9 of 12 chances. Fluellen has 497 yards rushing on 6.3 ypc on the year, plus he also has 16 catches for another 153 yards, while scoring 4 combined Tds'. He is one of the more exciting players in the MAC. The Rockets are a very average team on both sides of the ball scoring and allowing 25 ppg.

The Ball State Cardinals also enter this game off a blowout win, after pasting the Eastern Michigan Eagles 51-20 last week. The Cardinals are now 3-1 on the year and 1-0 in the MAC. The offense is led by QB Keith Wenning, who has been outstanding this year, throwing for 1315 yards with 9 TD's and 2 INT's, while connecting on 62.8% of his passes. Last week vs the Eagles he completed 17- of-28 passes for 317 yards and two touchdowns, while WR Willie Snead reeled in nine catches for a game-high 175 receiving yards. The Star of the Offense may have been RB Jahwan Edwards, who only had 81 yards rushing, but did have 3 TD's. The Cardinals are 12th in the nation in passing (336 ypg) and 19th in scoring (42.2 ppg), while the Defense has been decent, allowing just 24 ppg.

Pick: I like the Cardinals in this one. Toledo is not the offensive juggernaut that they once were as they are averaging 6 ppg less than last year and 17 ppg less than 2 years ago. This team does have 9 starters back from last year, but still it hasn't translated into more points. One this the Cardinals do know about is scoring, as they come in ranked 19th in that department, putting up 42.2 ppg on the year. Their QB is a stud and their running game is coming around, which will make this offense even more dangerous. Defensively the Rockets have been solid, but have yet to face an offense of this caliber and remember they do have just 3 starters back on that side of the ball. The Cardinals are 7-0 ATS after playing Eastern Michigan and 8-0 ATS vs a team seeking revenge, including 2-0 this year, while the Rockets have gone just 2-6 ATS the last 8 in the series. Go Cardinals in this one.
