The No. 15 Texas Longhorns open their 2013 College Football season tonight when they host the New Mexico State Aggies. The game is scheduled for an 8 p.m. start time and it will be televised live on the Longhorn Network. Currently the odds for the game have Texas favored by 43 points.

Texas is going to be a team that surprises quite a few people here in 2013. They have an experienced quarterback and a coach that apparently needs to have a successful season. Hard to believe a guy like Mack Brown is on the proverbial "hot seat" but Texas faithful aren't ready to have another sub-par season. We believe this year will be a good one for the Horns.

The Longhorns have beaten New Mexico State all four previous matchups (no surprise there) and they've done it all in blowout fashion. Texas is experienced, big and motivated — three things that will help them accomplish a lot this season. They bring back starters all over the field from a team that underachieved last season. Better believe the coaching staff has worked very hard the past few months to make this Texas team ready to go.

Texas' schedule isn't going to do them any favors early. This cupcake certainly helps them get a win under their belt in a live-practice but they will take on BYU and Ole Miss the next two weeks.

As we look at the point spread, it is worth noting that Texas isn't the fastest-playing team in the country. They are going to have to earn that 45 point win that oddsmakers have the line at for this one. But then again, Brown does need to get a solid win for his team to start the season.

New Mexico State isn't very good, we know that. But I don't see Texas winning this game by 45+ points, if only because they will work to be methodical and play a boring-style of game.
