The University of Miami's 2013 football schedule has seven home games and they will play nine of their 12 games in the Sunshine State overall. Year three of the Al Golden era will open with open with six consecutive games in the state of Florida and will not play a non-Florida road game until Oct. 17 at North Carolina. The full schedule is listed below but first let's preview the 2013 Miami Hurricanes.
NCAA investigations have taken a toll both on an off the field on this Miami Hurricanes squad. The program self-imposed a bowl ban, including the 2012 ACC Championship Game, while reducing its number of scholarships. Al Golden was dealt a rough hand at Miami and has gotten off to a slow start. Now in his third year it looks like their might be some light at the end of the tunnel.
Stephen Morris is back to run the offense and he is looking for a better year than 2012, after throwing for 3300 yards and just 21 TD's, He has talent around him, especially at WR and he will be looked upon to make plenty of throws downfield. RB Duke Johnson had a good year as a freshmen (947 yrds and 10 TD's) but this year he will be in the limelight. He is an explosive play-maker and getting the ball in his hands should be a priority for the Canes. Miami very is deep at receiver, with their top 3 and 6 of their top 8 pass catchers back from a year ago. This could be the best WR corps in the ACC. The OL has 93 career starts to it's credit and should be a strength this season as it has several All-ACC caliber players.
On defense Miami was 118th in total yards allowed, but with 8 starters back this year I look for big improvements on this side of the ball. The Canes had the 99th ranked pass defense and 104th ranked run defense, so they were just bad in all facets of their defense. The team gave up 30+ points eight times, 40+ points four times and a 52 spot to Kansas State. Last year they had just one seniors in their top 16 tacklers. This was a very young defense lst year, but noew they are a year older and will look to improve. The expectation is that the seniors and juniors this year will step up and at the very least give the offense some support, as oppose to relying on 40 points a game to win.
With 18 starters back and the fact that this is Al Golden's third year, you have to believe that the Canes are one of the favorites to win the ACC coastal. The do have to travel to FSU, but get Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech at home. The offense will be one of the best in the nation this year, while I expect the defense to be much, much stronger than they were last year. This is a dangerous team and will be a handful for opposing defenses this season. I expect 9 or ten wins from this team and a trip to the ACC title game. Key Trends--- 5-1-1 ATS last 7 games vs Florida... 6-1 ATS last 7 at Florida State... 1-13 ATS off BB SU & ATS wins.
