The free falling San Francisco Giants will look to stop their rapid descent in the NL West standings today when they close out a three game road set in Denver. This afternoon’s clash between the Giants and Colorado Rockies is scheduled to get underway at 4:10pm ET at Coors Field. Offshore bookmaker 5Dimes has San Francisco listed as a -122 moneyline favorite ($122 wins $100) and the Over/Under set at 9.5 runs (Under is favored at -125 odds) in its latest MLB Free Picks and Odds. The Rockies are getting +112 odds to complete the sweep of San Francisco.

 

San Francisco opened its current 10 games road swing with three straight losses to the Dodgers, and, thanks to a series ending loss to the Marlins at AT&T Park on June 23^rd, it is one setback away from a seven game skid.

 

The Rockies took games one and two 4-1 and 2-1, respectively, leaving Giants hurler Madison Bumgarner with a heavy burden on his shoulders this afternoon.

 

If Bumgarner’s recent performance is any indication, he will be able to carry the team to victory today. The 23 year old southpaw has allowed 10 hits and struck out 23 batters while posting a 1.71 ERA in his last three starts.

 

Bumgarner, who owns a 0.95 road WHIP, has also done some really solid work away from home this season as host squads are hitting him at a pathetic .196 clip.

 

Colorado, which evened its record at 41-41 with yesterday’s win, will counter Bumgarner with its own lefty in Drew Pomeranz.

 

Pomeranz, a 24 year old Ole Miss product, is making his first appearance of the year, but he posted an 8-1 record and 4.20 ERA in 15 starts for Triple-A Colorado Springs. Pomeranz was 2-9 with a 4.93 ERA for the big league club last season; he is 5-13 with a 5.01 in 26 career major league starts.

 

Notable Trends: The Over is 9-1 in the Rockies last 10 games as a home dog against a left handed pitcher.
