The scuffling San Francisco Giants are in Denver today to open a three game set with another struggling squad in the Colorado Rockies. Tonight’s meeting between the two division rivals is scheduled to get underway at 8:40pm ET at Coors Field. MLB Free Picks and Odds from offshore bookmaker 5Dimes have the Rockies listed as a -134 moneyline favorite and the Over/Under set at 10.5 runs (Over favored at -115 odds). The Giants are getting +124 odds ($100 wins $124) end their current four game skid.

 

The Giants and Rockies are still in contention for the NL West crown, sitting four games back of the first place Diamondbacks in a tie for third; however, both squads are moving in the wrong direction.

 

Colorado dropped its third straight game last night, falling 3-2 in a make-up meeting with the Mets, and it is just 2-8 in its last 10 games. San Francisco has not fared any better as it lost its fourth straight game on Wednesday night to drop to 38-40 overall.

 

Despite their struggles, at least one of these teams will get a win tonight. The Rockies, who are 23-18 at home this season, will look to end their skid with Jhoulys Chacin on the hill; the Giants will counter with former Cy Young winner Barry Zito.

 

Chacin had a rough start to the month, giving up five earned runs in back to back starts, but he has turned the corner of late. The 25 year old right hander is 3-0 in his last three outings after allowing just 18 hits and four earned runs over 20.2 innings.

 

Zito also got shelled in his first two June appearances as the Blue Jays and Pirates tagged the veteran lefty for 18 hits and 12 earned runs in 0-4 and 8-12 losses. Like Chacin, though, Zito has been solid in his last couple of starts.

 

The Padres managed two runs off Zito over 5.2 innings while the Marlins produced just six hits and one run opposite the 13 year veteran last Saturday. For the season Zito is 4-5 with a 4.40 ERA and 1.56 WHIP, but he is a horrendous 0-4 with an 11.28 ERA in five road starts.

 

Notable Trends: The Under is 7-1 in the Rockies last eight games as a home favorite against a left handed pitcher.
