Analysis: The Los Angeles Dodgers suddenly have something to build on heading into Wednesday’s game against the host Los Angeles Angels. The Dodgers rallied from a five-run deficit to defeat the Angels on Monday and benefited from a two-hit shutout from left-hander Hyun-Jin Ryu on Tuesday. The Dodgers dropped struggling outfielder Matt Kemp from No. 3 to No. 5 in the batting order Tuesday and he responded with a double in the sixth inning and later came around to score. Still, manager Don Mattingly had to remove him in the bottom of the ninth after he complained of elbow soreness as a result of getting hit by a pitch in the second inning. Chris Capuano hasn’t been the same pitcher since he recorded his only career victory against the Angels last June. He went seven innings in that game, allowing one run and seven hits in the 3-1 victory at Angel Stadium to improve to 9-2 on the season. He has gone 4-13 since. His lone victory this season came against the Miami Marlins, the lowest-scoring team in the majors.
The Angels were riding a season-high eight-game winning streak before dropping both contests at Dodger Stadium. A night after the Dodgers rallied from a 6-1 deficit to win 8-7, Hyun-Jin Ryu tossed a two-hitter to hand the Angels a 3-0 loss Tuesday. With slugger Josh Hamilton scratched because of back spasms, the Angels hardly posed a threat against Ryu, getting hits from Howie Kendrick and Chris Ianetta. It's uncertain if Hamilton will play in Anaheim, where the Angels are looking to match a season high with their fifth straight victory. Albert Pujols went 0 for 3 on Tuesday, but is batting .553 with five home runs against the Dodgers' Chris Capuano. Jered Weaver suffered the injury while trying to dodge a comebacker against the Texas Rangers. He has made nine career starts against the Dodgers and owns a 5-2 record and a 2.63 ERA. He hasn’t faced the Dodgers since 2011, however. He made back-to-back starts against the Dodgers that summer, allowing a combined two runs and 11 hits in 15 innings. Carl Crawford and Adrian Gonzalez are the only Dodgers with decent success against Weaver. Crawford is 5-for-15 with a home run and Gonzalez is 3-for-10.
Pick: I like the Angels to bounce back in this one. Jered Weaver is back and they have played very well at home of late and then you have Pujols, who is batting .533 with 5 HR's in his career off of Capuano. Angels get revenge tonight.
