MLB Free Picks: Atlanta Braves at Detroit Tigers

http://cdn.bleacherreport.net/images_root/slides/photos/002/971/987/hi-res-153458544_crop_650x440.jpg?1360610219

The Detroit Tigers and Atlanta Braves will meet in Major League Baseball action today. The game is scheduled for a 1:05 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on FOX. Currently the odds for the game have the Braves as a small favorite.

Last night history was made between the Tigers and Braves as Anibal Sanchez set a franchise record by striking out 17 batters in a 10-0 victory. Today the Tigers and Braves will meet again on the diamond and certainly Atlanta will want to improve off of last night's beatdown by Detroit. Sanchez had everybody confused and did a great job of keeping Atlanta from making any threats.

Today the Tigers have Rick Porcello on the hill. He's not a massive strikeout guy like Sanchez has become, but he did survive spring training and the trade rumors that were following him around. Porcello (0-2, 11.08 ERA) is a big part of this team and he'll get things straightened out quickly. Remember, Porcello gave up nine earned runs to the LA Angels and got beat up pretty good last week. He's allowing teams to club a .388 average against him so far this season. That's got to get fixed.

Kris Medlen (1-2, 2.16) is taking the mound for Atlanta, looking to slow down a lineup that crushed 15 hits and 10 runs in their win last night. Medlen has won his last six road starts and has an ERA of 0.64 in those games.

Miguel Cabrera is on fire right now. The reigning Triple Crown winner is batting .415 with a homer and 10 RBIs during a 10-game hitting streak.

The Braves still have 15 wins on the season and are one of the best teams in baseball. Yet, American League baseball is considerably different than what they are used to. Medlen is going to try and keep the Tigers off-balanced but it's not going to be an easy task. Atlanta has lost five of their last seven games overall and is hitting .186 with runners in scoring position during those seven games.

Hard to imagine the Braves having the same type of game today as they did last night. With Porcello's struggles and an Atlanta team that is going to come in and be aggressive, we like the Braves to get this one today.
