Analysis: The 14-8 Stanford Cardinal travel to McKale Center tonight for a brawl with the No. 7 Arizona Wildcats. Stanford fended off 11-11 Oregon State 81-73 Sunday afternoon in their last outing. The Cardinal were ahead by just a pair at the break due to the Beavers making half of their shots and all of their free throws. Stanford was hot from the outside 7-of-11, but just 6-of-17 inside the arc and 2-of-6 at the line through the first 20 minutes. Sophomore guard Chasson Randle had 14 of his 20 points during the first half. The Cardinal also received 16 and 14 from junior forwards Josh Heustis and Dwight Powell as well as 12 from junior center Josh Gage.  The Cardinal have won five of their last seven after starting league play 0-2. Huestis has a pair of double-doubles over the last three games, and has provided much-needed support for junior forward Dwight Powell, who is averaging 14.4 points and 7.7 rebounds. Stanford still trails the Pac-12 in field goal shooting at 41.1 percent, but the Cardinal have shot 57.4 percent from beyond the arc in their last three games. Sophomore guard Chasson Randle and senior forward John Gage have been shooting well in recent weeks, but the team needs junior guard Aaron Bright to be more consistent.

After moving into a first-place tie with Oregon in the Pac-12, No. 7 Arizona looks to extend its three-game winning streak against surging Stanford on Wednesday. Arizona is coming off a sweep of the Washington schools last week, and its defense has limited the opposition to 25.4 percent from 3-point range over the last four games. Arizona has won 12 of the last 16 games against Stanford, and the Wildcats are 28-8 in Tucson. The Cardinal have won five of their last seven after starting league play 0-2. Huestis has a pair of double-doubles over the last three games, and has provided much-needed support for junior forward Dwight Powell, who is averaging 14.4 points and 7.7 rebounds. Free Pick: I will look for the Cardinal to keep this one close. The Dg is 19-7 ATS in this series and other than getting blown out by Colorado the Cardinal has not lost by more than 9 points in any of their other 7 losses this year. They play excellent defense and that has been able to keep them in their games this year. Stanford allows just 64.2 on 41.4% shooting, giving then a ranking of 3oth in the nation in defensive efficiency. Offensively the Cardinals are not that bad either as they average 70.3 ppg and are 76th in offensive efficiency, plus they hit their FT’s as well (73.6%). Arizona is 11th in defensive efficiency and 20th in offensive efficiency, but those are not overwhelming edges for the Cats, plus they have struggled some at home in the Pac-12, losing to UCLA, beating Utah by just 3 and needing OT before beating Colorado. The Defense will be key here and I feel that the Cardinal has enough of it to keep the game close.
