Super Bowl Odds 2013

http://www.blackchristiannews.com/news/11918727-mmmain.jpg
The Super Bowl is a mere four days away, but the San Francisco 49ers are still the choice of both bettors and odds makers. The latest Super Bowl Odds 2013 have the 49ers listed as a -4 against the spread and -160 moneyline favorite to win the franchise’s sixth Lombardi Trophy. San Francisco’s second year quarterback Colin Kaepernick is also the favorite to be named the game’s most valuable player. The Nevada product is drawing +180 odds ($100 wins $180) to win Super Bowl MVP honors.

The 49ers came out of nowhere last season as first year head coach Jim Harbaugh guided the team to its first NFC Championship Game appearance since 1995. There would be no surprises with this year’s squad, though. Coming into the season San Francisco was generally regarded as one of a handful of teams capable of reaching the Super Bowl.

Those prognostications have been proven correct, but they did not come to fruition in the manner most believed they would. Starting quarterback Alex Smith suffered a concussion in a 24-3 week eight win at Arizona, forcing Harbaugh to turn to the talented but green Kaepernick. Kaepernick performed so well Harbaugh never turned back to Smith.

Kaepernick has, essentially, changed the identity of the team, putting the offense on equal footing with its vaunted defense. The team’s overall numbers since the move to Kaepernick provide proof of the personality shift.

With Smith under center San Francisco averaged 23.6 points per game while giving up an average of 13.4 points per contest. In Kapernick’s 10 starts the Niners averaged 28.1 points per game and gave up an average of 22.5 points per game.

Those totals are indicative of a team that has moved from a clock eating, ball control style to a big play, quick strike approach that leads to more points and, based upon the fact that San Francisco is in the Super Bowl, more success.

2013 Super Bowl Odds:

Baltimore Ravens +3.5 (-110), Over 47.5 (-110), +140 (Moneyline)

San Francisco 49ers -3.5 (-110), Under 47.5 (-110), -160 (Moneyline)
