The UFC’s sixth card on FOX will feature a battle of the little guys in the main event as flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson squares off against top ranked challenger John Dodson. Tonight’s event, which will take place at the United Center in Chicago, has a scheduled start time of 8:00pm ET. The latest UFC Fight Predictions and Odds have Johnson listed as a -250 favorite ($250 wins $100) to retain his title. Also on tonight’s card are intriguing light heavyweight and lightweight battles. Up and comer Glover Teixeira will face former 205lb. champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson while former WEC strap holder Anthony “Showtime” Pettis meets the always entertaining Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone. Teixeira and Pettis are listed as -340 and -140 favorites, respectively.
Demetrious Johnson (16-2) has tallied six fights since coming over to the UFC from the WEC. The 26 year old Kentucky native is 4-1-1 in those battles with his only loss coming to current bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz. Johnson is undefeated since making the switch to flyweight, though, earning wins over Ian McCall and Joseph Benavidez.
Johnson became the first UFC flyweight champion last September when he took a split decision victory against Benavidez.
Johnson has a solid wrestling base and he will use it depending on the opponent, but his preferred style is to stand and bang. He will find a similar opponent in Dodson, a two time state wrestling champion, who is always looking for the finish.
Dodson, who owns a 14-5 professional record, is 3-0 since joining the UFC in December of 2011 and he rides a five fight winning streak into tonight’s main event. Dodson, who has never been taken down in 19 career fights, may be one of the few flyweights with the ability to match Johnson’s speed and athleticism.
