The Detroit Lions return home on Sunday and welcome in the Seattle Seahawks in Sunday NFL Football. The game is scheduled for a 1:00 pm start time and it will be televised live on FOX. Currently the odds for the game have the Lions favored anywhere from 1 to 3 points.
The Lions have been one of the surprise teams in the NFL this season, and not for a good reason. Many had picked the Lions to finish in the upper half of the NFC in regards to wins on the year, but they've stumbled to a 2-4 record so far. That hasn't been good news for the Lions. Seattle has some big wins this season, beating Dallas, Green Bay, Carolina and New England. However, they've been a below average team on the road this season, going just 1-3 overall. However, the Seahawks have made bettors money as they've cashed in on five of seven against the spread so far this year.
Detroit is coming in off a bye week that saw them play well defensively, but struggle on offense, losing to the Bears 13-6. Detroit had several opportunities to score points against Chicago on Monday, but turned it over three times in the red zone. Yuck. Detroit has been outscored by more than a field goal per game so far while Seattle, sporting a 4-3 record, has outscored opponents by less than 2 points per game overall. That means they are playing in a lot of close contests. That could come into play during this game today as the Lions are favored, but not by much. Depending on the available line at the book you use, Detroit could be favored from 1 to 3 points.
It's no secret that the Lions love to throw the ball. They average more than 320 yards passing per game this season, which is good for second overall in the league. Seattle's pass defense is pretty good, allowing just 212 yards through the air, which equates to right around 5.0 yards per pass completion. Neither team has been very good in the turnover department as both are in negative figures.
The Seahawks will try and bruise Detroit up in this game, making it an ugly contest. Russell Wilson has been above average for being a rookie quarterback, but he hasn't been great by any means lately. Their defense has kept them in nearly every game this season and they haven't lost by more than a touchdown all season. This will be the third home game for the Lions and they haven't played well in either one, narrowly beating St. Louis to open the season and losing to Minnesota a few weeks ago. Detroit has become well known for being a good home team, but unless they can win today's game, they'll be just 1-2 at Ford Field so far this season.
Something worth noting — Seattle is 7-0 against the spread the last two seasons when facing teams that throw for more than 240 yards per game. But, in order to cover the spread against the Lions today, they might have to win the football game outright. We don't see that happening as we expect Detroit to come out and play an inspired game of football.
